Rep. Chuy Garcia (D-Ill.) quickly apologized for a profane tweet that was sent from his account calling a critic “borderline retarded” and a “f**king dips**t,” immediately blaming a staffer for the vulgar sentiment.
The first tweet that set off the criticism by a random user was sent out on Friday from Garcia’s Twitter account and announced the Democrat had voted for an “assault weapons ban,” calling on the Senate to pass the legislation.
“Now it’s the Senate’s turn to pass it and send it to President [Joe] Biden’s desk,” the first tweet stated.
“Never even heard of this guy and I won’t comply even if his silly law passes,” a Twitter user going by the handle Anarcho3D asserted in a reply.
The shocking reply to the user from Garcia’s account read, “You are borderline retarded, ya f**king dips**t.”

The user’s account has around 830 followers. The owner seemed elated that the Democrat was triggered by his tweet.
“Did I make the worthless little congressman upset?” the account tweeted in response to Garcia.

The Democratic congressman conveniently and predictably claims that he did not send out the tweets.
Garcia spokesperson Fabiola Rodríguez-Ciampoli sent out a statement on Saturday blaming a staffer for the “unauthorized tweet.” According to the statement, disciplinary action is on the way but it did not give the name of the person being blamed.
“Last night a member of Congressman Garcia’s staff posted an unauthorized tweet from the Congressman’s account using profanities and offensive language to individuals living with disabilities. The language used was absolutely inappropriate and inconsistent with Congressman Garcia’s history. The individual responsible will be held accountable and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken,” she proclaimed.

The incident comes just one day after the House voted 217-213 to pass a bill to outlaw the sale of “assault weapons.” It is likely dead on arrival in the Senate and has almost no chance of passage.
The Assault Weapons Ban of 2022 would make it illegal for a person to import, manufacture, sell, or transfer “a semiautomatic assault weapon,” according to the bill’s summary. It would apply to the most popular rifles in the U.S., including the AR-15 and AK-47, and is a direct assault on Second Amendment rights.
Only two Republicans voted for the bill: Representative Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and Representative Chris Jacobs (R-NY). They joined with all but five Democrats to pass the measure. Democratic Representatives Henry Cuellar of Texas, Jared Golden of Maine, Vicente Gonzalez of Texas, Kurt Schrader of Oregon, and Ron Kind of Wisconsin surprisingly voted against the bill.

President Biden asserted that a majority of Americans agree with the assault weapons ban and called on the Senate to immediately pass it.
“The majority of the American people agree with this commonsense action,” he disingenuously declared. “The Senate should move quickly to get this bill to my desk, and I will not stop fighting until it does. There can be no greater responsibility than to do all we can to ensure the safety of our families, our children, our homes, our communities, and our nation.”
“Today, House Democrats acted by unifying to pass an assault weapons ban to keep weapons of war off our streets, save lives in this country and reduce crime in our communities,” Biden added.

The first-term congressman is notably up for reelection in Illinois’ 4th Congressional District and the profane tweet could have an impact on his race. Garcia was the sole Democratic candidate in the primary election and he will face one Republican candidate and one Working Class Party candidate on Nov. 8.
