Peter Sellers starred in the brilliant 1979 comedic movie, Being There, based on a novel by Jerzy Kosinski. The story offered a prophetic picture of things-to-come in the 2020 presidential election.
Sellers plays Chance, a cognitively challenged, middle-aged man who has spent his life as a gardener in a protected environment. To put it plainly, he is a low-I.Q. moron. When first asked to identify himself at the beginning of the film, Chance says he is “Chance the gardener,” referring to his gardening occupation. The influential people he meets mistake what he says. They think he is “Chauncey Gardiner” rather than Chance the gardener and fail to recognize his lack of mental acuity. Through a series of coincidences, Chauncey becomes a confidant to the president of the U.S.
The president misinterprets Chauncey’s half-witted comments about gardening as metaphorical political advice and quotes him in a speech. Chauncey rises to national prominence, attends important dinners, and appears on a television talk show where his lame advice about gardening is mistaken for an erudite opinion on what the president should do. In a powerful parting shot at the end of the movie, the political powers-that-be hold a whispered discussion over potential replacements for the president in the next term of office and unanimously agree on Chauncey Gardiner as successor.
Cut to the Democratic Party presidential debates in 2020. The Democrats and the media chose Chauncey Gardiner—Joe Biden—as their candidate, completely ignoring the signs of cognitive decline. “It was crystal clear back in early 2020,” said Miranda Devine of the New York Post. “Biden was not all there. There was a screw loose.”
So how on earth did Biden get elected? Although they knew how incapacitated he was, the Democratic Party was hesitant to pin its hopes on the likes of Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren or Pete Buttigieg. They decided “that Joe Biden had to be installed to beat Donald Trump,” said Devine, “because he was the only one who had a moderate image.”
To support their decision, said Tucker Carlson, the “uniform command” of the people who ran the Democratic Party was, “Do not notice what Joe Biden is actually like. If you see him on television turn away because you might conclude he is fundamentally, physically, cognitively unfit for office.”
The media went along with the deception. Consider these comments that appeared on CNN:
“That is Joe Biden at his best. That is someone who is authentic. That’s the reason he connects with people.”
“He is having fun. This is not heavy lifting for Joe Biden.”
“There is Uncle Joe talking in a way that Americans want to hear.”
It helped that many Americans did not want to vote for Trump in spite of his success as president. They couldn’t stand his personality quirks. His incessant tweets made them angry. The media portrayed him as a racist and womanizer. He had a terrible haircut. Joe Biden, on the other hand, came across as avuncular—suggestive of an uncle’s kindness and geniality. Joe seemed like the kind of guy you would love to have as a guest for Thanksgiving.
Biden is the political equivalent of the tooth fairy—a magical entity who comes into your life and provides a fantasy level of relief from trauma. People pretended that the result of their vote for Joe would match their fantasy. They relied on the avuncular image of Joe as fact, even though their intellect told them that the facts did not support their emotional preference.
Biden’s mental decline is no longer possible to deny. Everybody is now in agreement that he is Chance the gardener and not Chauncey Gardiner. “The fact that Joe Biden is president is an indictment of the media and the Democratic Party,” said Tucker Carlson, “because they have known … his senility has been obvious for over three years.”
“Being There” with Biden is a bad movie foisted on us by the shadow people who now run the country. And so life imitates art.
