Teachers union, media lapdogs stuck with cold fact that voters approve of DeSantis’ policies

Any conservative paying attention is aware that Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) has been chalking up wins in the culture war for a while, but now his opposition to the woke agenda has grown so pronounced that even corporate media couldn’t deflect from a recent poll that showed voters across the nation are in favor of following his lead.

The American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the second largest teachers’ union in the United States, has exercised a lot of influence in public policy as witnessed by the way school systems responded to the COVID pandemic. However, efforts to control the curriculum and indoctrinate the next generation of voters in their favor appeared to have hit an impasse according to findings of the Democratic polling firm Hart Research Associates.

NBC News obtained the results of the poll that asked voters in the battleground states of Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin to react to preferences in the curriculum and voting, and the momentum was clearly behind DeSantis’ message of putting “children first” and protecting “parental rights.”

“Our school system is for educating kids not indoctrinating kids,” the governor said at the first annual Moms for Liberty summit held in Tampa Bay, Florida on Friday.

This has resonated as NBC News detailed, “One poll question found that voters, by a 32 percentage-point margin, said they were more likely to vote for candidates who believe public schools should focus less on teaching race and more on core subjects. By 27 points, they said schools should be banned from teaching sexual orientation and gender identity to kids in kindergarten through third grade. By 28 points, they said transgender athletes should be banned from competing in girls’ sports.”

“We have drawn a very clear line in the sand that says our school system is for educating kids not indoctrinating kids. We’ve also drawn a clear line to say parents have a fundamental role in the education of their kids,” DeSantis said and 56 percent of voters agreed they were, “much more likely or somewhat more likely to vote for candidates who believe public schools should focus less on teaching students about race and racism and more on core academic subjects.”

So critical is this issue that Florida first lady Casey DeSantis began “Mamas for DeSantis” “With the goal of signing up a million mamas across the state of Florida” to be “the largest movement of parents in Florida history,” driving the governor’s education agenda.

The pollsters attempted to save face with the findings and behave as though DeSantis has been holding back on instituting a truly radical agenda. Guy Molyneux of Hart Research told NBC, “DeSantis has been reasonably shrewd in choosing his culture war initiatives, avoiding toxic ideas like criminally prosecuting teachers. BUT, going forward I think he will struggle to distinguish his approach from general Republican efforts to enflame political wars in school systems, which voters really don’t want.”

The results truly spoke for themselves and, as DeSantis’ press secretary Delanie Bomar pointed out in a statement, “It’s sad to see Democrats and teachers’ unions needed a poll to know what is best for children. You know you’re doing the right thing when even liberal outlets like NBC recognize Governor DeSantis is doing right by parents and students of Florida.”
