‘We are in the fight together’: Kamala Harris strikes again with ‘tone-deaf’ AF2 photo on Roe protests

Boasting a favorability rating worse than President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris could readily pull back from the limelight and focus on rebranding from the word salad-serving, border crisis-ignoring objective failure that she has been. Instead, she opted for the bolder move Friday of reminding even her base how out of touch she is with a photo-op that caused some to cry out “just delete this.”

Democratic strategists knew for months that Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization could result in Roe v. Wade being overturned, and they had weeks since Justice Samuel Alito’s draft majority opinion was leaked suggesting that was precisely what was on the horizon. Yet, with all that advance warning, Harris still managed to damage her image and the image of the Democratic party with a “cutting visual metaphor” for their “detachment” from the issue.

Friday evening, well after the news had broken about the Supreme Court ruling, after she had given remarks on the matter earlier in the day, Harris posted an image of herself aboard Air Force Two en route to Illinois.

“I know there are women out there who are afraid. To those of you who feel alone and scared: I want you to know the President and I are fighting for you and your rights,” the picture was captioned. “We are in this fight together.”

Harris has consistently managed to remain below Biden in polling after her abysmal showing in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary race, with the LA Times reporting her currently netting a negative 11.6 in favorability. However, the reaction to this staged portrayal of concern suggested those numbers might be more than a little generous.

YouTuber Kendall Rae, whose feed is filled with pro-abortion messaging, reacted to the post by simply stating, “Just delete this honestly.”


To many, Harris’ message was clearly not about being with the people, but about remaining cold, distanced and above the concerns of the rabble.

Jack Mirkinson wrote, “you could try and try but you would not invent a more cutting visual metaphor for the democrats’ total detachment from the abortion fight than this.”

He followed that post by noting, “kamala harris chose as the main visual symbol of her reacting to the end of roe an image that directly echoes george w bush looking down at katrina. you could not make it up.”

Others followed suit by lambasting politicians writ large as merely “influencers” for their curated messaging amounting to nothing of real value for voters.

Actor James Urbaniak heaped onto the shaming of Harris by quipping, “I want you to know: we are watching TV,” while others wondered at what she truly thought she was accomplishing.

While establishment Republicans handover the store by selling out their voters on the Second Amendment, Harris’ detachment signaled that the Democratic party might be preparing for a race to the bottom ahead of the midterms with both parties vying for who can disenfranchise their base the most.
