Woman arrested for leaving four dogs in vehicle while she ate: ‘We leave them in the car all the time’

A 25-year-old Gainesville, Missouri woman named Tesia White was arrested by police on animal cruelty charges after she left four dogs, two of them puppies, in her hot car to die from heat exposure while she thoughtlessly ate lunch with her boyfriend in Florida.

Following a 911 call, White had handcuffs unceremoniously slapped on her Thursday evening after police were notified that the car was left on with the air conditioning running and the windows up while she ate lunch at a trendy downtown cafe in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

“We have four dogs on the side that were, they accidentally turned the air conditioning off in the car, and they were trapped in a hot car, and now they’re all laying on the side, and none of them are moving, and they’re all like foaming from the mouth,” the caller told 911, according to FOX 35.

A police report noted that a large puddle of liquid was seen “coming from under the vehicle into the nearby storm drain which appeared that the vehicle was running for a period of time.”

“We leave them in the car all the time with it running and the AC on, but they just absolutely turned it off, this time,” the 911 caller stated.

Employees could hear White scream when she found the dogs dead in her car. They tried to give the dogs water and allegedly mouth-to-mouth resuscitation but it was way too late.

Amy Ryan, who works near the restaurant where the tragedy took place was blunt about what happened and said White should have known better.

“I wouldn’t leave my children in the car with the windows rolled up. I wouldn’t leave my dog in the car. And if you’re not going to leave a Hershey bar in the car, you don’t leave a living being with the windows rolled up,” Ryan commented.

White reportedly checked on the dogs once during her lunch. But when she returned to her car after eating, she found all of them dead in her car about an hour later. The temperature outside that day was approximately 85 degrees. That means the temperature inside the car could have gone as high as 130 degrees according to the American Veterinary Medical Association.

The dogs that perished in the vehicle were a 4-year-old Goldendoodle, a 2-year-old Boxer, and two 12-week-old Goldendoodle puppies.

White tearfully stood in front of the judge after she was charged with four counts of animal cruelty. She was incarcerated at the Volusia County jail with a $10,000 bond. The judge in the case said on Friday during White’s arraignment that she is not allowed to own any animals while the case is ongoing.

There was a lot of anger and hatred vented towards the woman on social media after the incident was reported:

  1. This BITCH should fry in the electric chair four times over!!!
Absolutely no excuse for cruelty like this!!

  2. I am so glad to see this happening. I live in Alabama and it gets mighty Damn hot here and it is very Humid in the Winter Summer is unbearable. My Daughter has a little Morkie and I have a little Yorkie. We take them if one of us will be sitting in the car other than that we leave them home in the Air. People that takes thier Animal’s with them then leave them in a car when it is hot needs to be arrested. Then spend some time in Jail, can’t have any more Dog’s and a big heafty fine to go along with all the hurt she will go through. To me a Dog is just like a Kid you buy them you take them to the Vet you get them good food and take care of them and they do become your Kid’s. My Daughter never could have any Kid’s so she has had Dog’s.

  3. Gee I hate to hear stuff like this! Being a Floridians we know that unless someone will be staying in the car with our Yorkshire she will not be going. Most of the time she travels inside in her own doggie backpack on my husband’s back (and she is pretty much accepted everywhere), but she is never left in the car unless it’s winter (never very cold here in Florida) and seldom if ever for more than 10 minutes even then. I feel sorry for this person because this will rest uncomfortably on her soul for the rest of her life.

    1. I agree. It was a tragic accident and she is already sentenced to a lifetime of pain and regret no matter what the courts decide.
