‘Let’s rush in…cops aren’t doing anything’: Parents incensed as shooter rampaged over an hour, reports say

A heart-wrenching video has surfaced on social media of terrified and frustrated parents outside Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas reportedly demanding that police officers storm the building as the killer rampaged for over an hour before his barricade was breached and he was taken out.

The Associated Press reported on Wednesday night that parents begged officers to rush the school while the gunman was inside. The video that went viral online, which appears to be authentic, purportedly shows parents yelling and wailing at the police outside a perimeter around the school. It is unclear if the scenario took place during or after the mass shooting.

The 18-year-old alleged murderer who killed 19 children and two teachers at the school on Tuesday, was killed by a tactical unit from the Border Patrol after a standoff where multiple cops were shot and injured.

An alleged eyewitness named Juan Carranza told the AP that parents were shouting at police, demanding that they enter the school and stop the shooter.

“Go in there! Go in there!” they allegedly yelled.

The New York Times reported on Wednesday that the shooter was inside the school for approximately an hour before police breached the building.

“One lingering question is when exactly the shooting began. Authorities agree that the gunman was dead by 1 p.m. but have offered conflicting accounts as to whether the attack began around 11:30 a.m. or closer to noon. By 11:43 a.m., the school announced on Facebook that it was under lockdown, citing gunshots in the area. ‘The students and staff are safe in the building,’ it said,” The Washington Post reported.

“In public transmissions on a radio channel used by local EMS workers, someone said at 11:53 a.m. that a lieutenant had requested a response to the area of the school. As the response was discussed, one official was heard telling first responders: ‘Please, just stay back,'” the report continued.

“By 12:10 p.m., a Facebook live stream recorded outside the front of the school showed police cars had established a perimeter, helicopters were flying overhead and onlookers had gathered. Seven minutes later, school authorities announced on social media there was ‘an active shooter at Robb Elementary,'” the Washington Post added.

“After hearing shooting, authorities said, a tactical team formed a ‘stack’ formation and eventually breached the classroom door and killed Ramos in a shootout. Ramos was in the room for some time before police officers entered, and it was unclear whether he killed the students when he first barricaded himself inside or just before the police breached the room,” the media outlet reported. “At 1:06 p.m., Uvalde Police announced on social media that the attack was over.”

“Shots were still being heard at 12:52 p.m., according to radio recordings. ‘Do not attempt to get closer,’ a voice warned on the EMS channel,” the piece concluded.

Given the timeframe as reported by the media, it is reasonable to assume that some parents made it to the scene as the shooting was occurring.

According to the AP, Javier Cazares, whose fourth-grade daughter was killed in the shooting, arrived at the school while police were still outside the building. He was “upset that police were not moving in.” He told the AP that he suggested storming the school with other parents.

“Let’s just rush in because the cops aren’t doing anything like they are supposed to,” he allegedly said during the standoff.

“More could have been done. They were unprepared,” Cazares claimed in reference to the police handling the situation.

“There was at least 40 lawmen armed to the teeth but didn’t do a darn thing until it was far too late. The situation could’ve been over quick if they had better tactical training, and we as a community witnessed it firsthand,” the distraught father allegedly asserted.

Lt. Christopher Olivarez of the Texas Department of Public Safety told CNN that the shooter had “barricaded himself by locking the door and just started shooting children and teachers that were inside that classroom.” He called the shooting “complete evil.”

“Meanwhile, a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation said the Border Patrol agents had trouble breaching the classroom door and had to get a staff member to open the room with a key,” the AP stated, painting a different scenario than the police did concerning the standoff. “The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the ongoing investigation.”

“Fathers smashed windows, and physically pulled their kids out of classrooms,” Ernest “Chip” King, who is a Uvalde firefighter and one of the first responders at the scene, told People. “There was a lot of chaos.”

A Uvalde police officer reportedly took students to safety.

“Teachers were doing headcounts of their students,” the officer stated, according to People, “but there was panic because they couldn’t remember which kids had been absent. It was the end of the school year and a lot of kids were missing. I saw one teacher trying not to cry as she asked the kids who had been absent that day.”

Firefighters and police officers tried to corral panicked parents, desperately trying to create some sort of order during the chaos. “There was a lot of angst and a lot of fear,” says King. “Parents were wondering where their kids were, trying to find them amidst all the chaos. They were terrified.”

“We were trying to keep the area secure,” King noted. “We worked with EMS ambulances to get them in and out. There were helicopters overhead.”

  1. Im sure that the immediate employment of manpower, vehicles and other logistics is a major event. Cops do it by the number. Excluding those in the immediate situation, who are obviously dealing with the unknowns, everyone else is under orders. If one person in the upper echilon isnt avialable , sometimes they wait. They have their book and they dare not break protocol. However, the book is old even though it has been revised to administer to the situation. Still, the book is old and now needs another revision designed to fit the situations we are facing today. There needs to be a rapid deployment team ready to go and infiltrate on arrival. Sometimes there isnt enough time to wait for back up. Now days, even the more , they are in constant radio communication at all times. So they can co-ordinate even more efficiently than ever before. Wheres the heroes and the bravery? Just showing up outside and standing there doesnt seem to be working very well. I understand that crowd control is necessary .I also understand that they cant go in even though every instinct they have tells them to. But someone needs to ramp things up to protect these young angels who are just starting to experience life and its wonders.

  2. Right Now!

  3. The police training or procedure are pitiful…and I am being kind! Response should have been immediate, even if one armed responder was present! Tactically, it is a response to a violent crisis, NO TIME for backup or “a plan”. Any trained, military combat vet would have gone in immediately to reduce the threat! A one on one tactical response…may have saved lives!

Add improved threat response to the list of much needed training for LEOs! Bring in a “Navy Seal or a “Green beret” experienced combat trainer!

    1. I totally agree. The rule book of protocol should be rewritten to cover rapid response situations. The times , they have changed. And to hell with Stacy Abrams and the likes. Wheres all the voices who were crying about “Defund the Police”.

  4. Video doesn’t lie. If true, shame on them. the border patrol was off duty, yet he ended the rampage. He is a hero.

  5. don’t believe everything you read in the media they have demonized the police for years this is just another example of it

  6. There was a Deputy Sheriff there whose child was killed. I doubt he/she stood outside twiddling their thumbs. Let’s wait for more accurate reports.

  7. I am shocked that the school security was so lax. I. am a Texas retired teacher and I currently sub. We have to badge in to gain entrance. Doors open only from the inside. We have drills to test that the building is locked up and cannot be entered by any door. We are encouraged to keep doors closed and locked during instructional hours. All I can figure is that in a sweet town, they never thought this could happen. I cannot imagine what was going on with the police but I would bet that their hearts were breaking. After all, this is their hometown, too. I bet some officers had kids or grandkids in the building. I reserve judgment until more info is revealed. Every way around- so sad.

  8. I thought one door entrance was automatic when the kids are in class. The doors will open from the inside but cannot be accessed from the outside. It sounds like scared cops and mindless security measures complimented this kids murderous acts. They all should be held accountable. The innocent victims blood cries out from the grave for accountability and justice. This perp knew this area and knew the security at this school.

  9. We have $40B for Ukraine but not $1 to make schools secure. These are government schools in government buildings. No different than entering a courthouse or city hall.

  10. I’d rather go out in a gun battle than a massacre. Schools should be protected like banks!

  11. What a bunch of bull! They were inside! Those outside were there to prevent anyone else from going in! Another left wing example of fake news propaganda! Suck it up buttercup! You’re on a losing side!
