New York Mayor Eric Adams made a fashionably leftist political statement at the Met Gala Monday night, sporting an elaborate tuxedo that had “End Gun Violence” emblazoned on the back of his jacket, and he was endlessly mocked for it.
Adams walked the red carpet with girlfriend Tracey Collins in a gauche masterpiece adorned with custom art from Laolu Senbanjo, who is a Nigerian artist based in New York City. The tux also displayed the symbol for the N train where a mass shooting took place in Brooklyn wounding 23 people.
The mayor seems to have a penchant for high-society parties and this was his chance to make a brazen leftist political push against guns. He also attended New York Fashion Week in February where he was seated next to Anna Wintour.
Although he has made big statements when it comes to eradicating crime in New York, there have been 291 shootings in the city so far this year, up from 252 over the same period last year, according to NYPD statistics.
In fact, crime is skyrocketing in the Big Apple. In March, the city reported 115 shooting incidents. That’s up more than 16 percent from March 2021.
“The goal is to end gun violence and save our children,” Adams proclaimed, according to the Daily Mail, as he pointed out the various subway lines displayed on his jacket. “Here’s my Q train, my 3 train, my N train, my A train.”
“Bringing a little swagger back to the #MetGala! Honored to be here,” Adams tweeted.

“Oh thank goodness NYC is safe now,” Wu-Tang Is For The Children sarcastically tweeted.
Fox News meteorologist Janice Dean slammed Adams over the spectacle, “Because this outfit will apparently help clean up New York, @NYCMayor. You are an embarrassment.”

“Mayor Adams is so out of touch and so fake.. The elitists are laughing at us all,” another Twitter user named Cassie commented.
Conservative TV commentator Greg Kelly eviscerated the mayor, “This FREAK SHOW ‘Eric’ should be in THE BRONX at the NYPD operations center. He told a gullible FAKE NEWS that he knew how to fight crime. This is his solution. GRAFFITI On his clothes. STUPID OUTFIT. STUPID GUY @NYCMayor”
The mocking of Adams was epic… it went on, and on, and on:
Eric Adams, wearing a jacket stating end gun violence, you are the mayor, that should be your job, not guns but criminals

Eric Adams proves once again that the Dems just don’t get it. Wearing a clown suit that says end gun violence to a gala event.

Given the choice between the Florida DA and the NY mayor wearing a suit hoping gun violence goes down I’ll take the Florida option pic.twitter.com/FmECEoxWYB

A little less swagger and a little more stopping crime while doing your job please

You do know there is an actual job to be done, don’t you? You know, other than paying your unqualified buddies high salaries…
