White House press secretary Jen Psaki was asked by CBS News White House correspondent Nancy Cordes on Thursday about the explosive charges being filed by the Jan. 6 committee against former President Donald Trump accusing him of participating in a “criminal conspiracy.”

“Okay. And then, finally, you know, we all saw the news about the January 6th…” Cordes began.

“Yeah,” Psaki interjected.

“…committee and, you know, their belief that there was criminal activity. I wanted to get your reaction to that. And also, does the president believe that former Vice President Pence should volunteer to testify before the committee?” the reporter asked.

“Well, let me first reiterate something you heard the president say: The former president subverted the Constitution in an attempt to overturn a lawful and fair election. His actions represent a unique and existential threat to our democracy. And the president has been clear that these events warrant a full investigation. Part of this is what we’re seeing play out. And what you just mentioned has been reported over the course of the morning,” Psaki outrageously replied.

“We, of course, respect the independence of the Department of Justice. That gives confidence to the American people. That’s how it should always be. And they will make a decision — a decision about how to move from here,” she disingenuously responded.

“As it relates to Vice President Pence, I would say: The president believes that anyone who is asked should participate in the process of getting to the bottom of what happened on January 6th,” Psaki concluded.

A court filing from the Jan. 6 committee is alleging that Trump and a lawyer who assisted with his re-election campaign were part of a “criminal conspiracy” to overturn the 2020 election, according to  The Washington Post.

“The facts we’ve gathered strongly suggest that Dr. (John) Eastman’s emails may show that he helped Donald Trump advance a corrupt scheme to obstruct the counting of electoral college ballots and a conspiracy to impede the transfer of power,” Reps. Bennie Thompson and Liz Cheney, who chair the 6 January investigation committee, said in a statement.

Eastman was subpoenaed by the committee months ago, but he is reportedly refusing to turn over emails and documents of interest to leftists on the grounds of attorney-client privilege.

The committee is arguing that Eastman has no claim to privilege since he was allegedly helping Trump’s team engage in criminal actions. The committee is asking a federal judge to decide whether to release Eastman’s communications in order to make that determination.

“The Select Committee also has a good-faith basis for concluding that the President and members of his Campaign engaged in a criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States,” the filing charges. The committee also filed a deposition claiming Eastman pleaded the Fifth Amendment and refused to answer their questions when they interviewed him.

In response to the charge, Trump unleashed a scathing response against the committee.

“The actual conspiracy to defraud the United States was the Democrats rigging the Election, and the Fake News Media and the Unselect Committee covering it up. Few things could be more fraudulent, or met with more irregularities than the Presidential Election of 2020,” the statement asserted.

“They refuse to cover the facts, such as just this week the special counsel in Wisconsin called for the decertification of the 2020 Election because of massive illegality, including election bribery, and the preying on the elderly for votes, which resulted in fraud of ’95-100 percent turnout,’ an impossibility, in at least 91 nursing homes,” Trump continued.

“This is true with many other states, especially swing states. In Arizona, 204,430 mail-in ballots had broken chain of custody, all far more necessary than the votes needed, 10,457, for ‘President Trump to win.’ In Georgia, over 240 ballot harvesters have been identified in an illegal operation spanning multiple swing states, all caught on video,” he added.

“The Unselect Committee’s sole goal is to try to prevent President Trump, who is leading by large margins in every poll, from running again for president, if I so choose,” Trump said.

“By so doing they are destroying democracy as we know it. Their lies and Marxist tactics against political opponents will not stop the truth, or the biggest political movement, Make America Great Again/America First, in the history of our Country. And now we have a war in Ukraine that would have never happened, record-setting inflation, an embarrassingly poorly executed withdrawal from Afghanistan, and an economy that is teetering, at best. All because of a corrupt Election result,” the former president concluded.
