In yet another piece of drama regarding the battles between school boards and parents, a video was uploaded to Twitter of a mother exposing school board members without masks.
The video, uploaded on Wednesday, was originally taken from TikTok and in it a woman (as yet unidentified at time of writing) begins her turn by holding up her phone and holding it up for the board, declaring that she had identified Susan Kass, Chairwoman of the Montgomery County, Virginia, school board, as breaking the mask rules that the board is imposing on school children.

“Here’s a picture, of you, right here, on Facebook, with a CROWD of people, with no mask on,” the woman declared angrily in the video. “Here’s another picture of you, with no mask on,” the woman continues.
“If you are going to sit there and disparage a member of our school board, you can sit down,” Kass angrily retorted, as the two women tried to talk over each other during the live-streamed meeting.
The two continued arguing for a few more seconds before Kass asked “may we have a police officer over here, please?”
There then appeared to be some dissension within the board itself, as fellow board member Jamie Bond chimed in to say “She should be able to say her piece, I’ve had to listen to people come and criticize me.”
“That doesn’t make it right, Jamie, that’s my family,” Kass responded.
“What do you think about our family? Our family is being suffocated to death with your policies,” the mother angrily replied.
Finally, Kass had had enough and fled the meeting.
“I’m done. She leaves or I leave,” Kass declared before leaving the meeting.
Kass was contacted for comment by WDBJ7, and gave this statement:
“Just because you believe in masking in a classroom, with 30 students sitting in a room in close proximity, in a small not well-ventilated room, asking them to mask there is not the same as saying I need to wear a mask in my house. The fact they went and trolled my Facebook to find anything they could to disparage me is pretty sad and pretty low.”
While Kass indicated she may retire from the board, other board members told WDBJ7 that they hope she stays: “She’s been a fantastic board member and honestly a really effective chair. Many of my fellow board members share that view,” said fellow board member Mike Cherbaka.
Virginia has been at the epicenter of an ongoing stream of headlines in the debate over masks and broader culture debates in general, particularly in Loudoun County, which has become synonymous with dramatic confrontations between parents and school boards.
Newly elected Governor Glenn Youngkin has signed a law prohibiting schools from requiring masks, yet as this video shows, the debate clearly isn’t over.
