A Seattle business owner has had enough with rampant crime in his city after his business was burglarized eight times. Maher Youssef joined Fox News’ “Fox and Friends” Thursday and told host Lawrence Jones, “I can’t do it anymore,” after he was robbed twice in one week.

Youssef owns and runs a small café in the downtown area of Seattle, a city with a government that has drained police forces to the extent that after the last two burglaries, Youssef said the police were not only delayed, they never even showed up to his business to make a report.

That incident was the first of the most recent pair of burglaries, the second of which yielded little for the thief(s) because the cash register and safe had already been taken in the previous break-in. The police offered to assist Youssef virtually, presumably through Zoom or Skype, but this time he demanded that police show up in person. When they finally did arrive, they apologized and said they are simply overtasked due to a shortage of police officers and staff, and that there simply wasn’t much they could do for him.

He said that police are ostensibly gone from the city and the landscape is dramatically different than what it used to be when he first opened his business.

“It’s getting scary. Very scary,” he told the outlet. “I feel like we live in a different country. This is not America.”

“Who do you blame for this, sir?” Jones asked.

“I blame the governor,” Youssef said and wondered what exactly he is paying taxes for if he receives no government services.

“Should I stop paying taxes?” he asked rhetorically.

Youssef said he believes that lawmakers care nothing about people and that every year they raise taxes while reducing services because their only interest is in extracting money from the citizenry.

“They should make rules to help the people, not [be] against people,” he concluded.

Seattle has been one of the epicenters of the defunding police movement along with several other Democrat-run cities that are infected with Leftist ideologies in their policymaking, the disastrous results of which can no longer be ignored.

As BPR reported in July, Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan called for reinforcements after hundreds of police officers either quit or retired early, citing an “anti-police climate.”

“As a city, we cannot continue on this current trajectory of losing police officers,” Durkan said at the time during a press conference. “Over the past 17 months, the Seattle Police Department has lost 250 police officers which is the equivalent of over 300,000 service hours. We’re on path to losing 300 police officers.”

And that was before the proliferation of mask or vaccine mandates that have since wreaked further damage on police forces around the country.

In August of 2020, Seattle’s first black police chief, Carmen Best, resigned after only two years on the job when the city council voted to slash their law enforcement budget. She reemerged in the news a little over a year later, appearing on “Fox News Primetime” in November when trends leaning away from defunding police appeared to vindicate her reasoning.

“I think that the pendulum is swinging a little bit more to a more moderate and centrist position. … You don’t hear as much about defunding the police department, because people want safety,” she said, adding that this applies to all races.

“It doesn’t matter what race they are. They want to be able to call 911 and know, if they’re a victim of a crime, that someone’s going to show up and try to resolve it,” she noted.
