Former “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett was found guilty on five out of six felony charges Tuesday in Chicago, where he stood trial for staging a racist, homophobic attack on himself and lying to police about it.

The unemployed actor not only wasted valuable police resources in perpetuating his hoax, he enflamed racial tensions across the country and, much like the boy who cried wolf, undermined real victims of hate crimes who will have a harder time convincing people that they are sincere in their allegations.

On a positive note, the New York Post editorial board pointed to Black Lives Matter coming to Smollett’s defense to say this exposes the truth about critical race theory being taught in schools.

The editorial board said the group’s stance was “a good encapsulation of why parents are so upset about critical-race theory and BLM ideology creeping into our schools.”

“You would think that Smollett faking a hate crime against himself for publicity would be an embarrassment, a farce that undermines the real victims of racism,” the editorial stated. “You’d be wrong. In a statement released Wednesday night, Dr. Melina Abdullah, director of BLM Grassroots and co-founder of BLM Los Angeles, called Smollett’s trial a ‘white supremacist charade’ that is ‘forcing’ Smollett to face ‘judges and juries operating in a system that is designed to oppress us, while continuing to face a corrupt and violent police department, which has proven time and again to have no respect for our lives.'”

Further highlighting the statement from Abdullah, the board stressed that the BLM movement is not interested in making police departments and the justice system more fair, they just “want to tear it down.”

“While policing at-large is an irredeemable institution, CPD is notorious for its long and deep history of corruption, racism, and brutality,” Abdullah alleged. “Police lie and Chicago police lie especially. Black Lives Matter will continue to work towards the abolition of police and every unjust system.”

“What would replace it? A utopia of community workers, they say,” the Post editorial board wrote. “But we already see what the real result is: Record numbers of murders — many of whom are young black men — in Democratic-run cities across the nation. Chicago, whose police Adbullah holds in particular vitriol, has seen 777 homicides this year — and 81 percent of the victims were black.”

In one Democratic-run city after another, murder and other crimes are up dramatically since the left started pushing the defund the police movement.

The Post noted that the radical left not only insists that America has not improved over the years when it comes to matters of race, but that the “fundamental institutions cannot be fixed and therefore must be destroyed.”

“Abdullah refers to BLM as ‘abolitionists,’ as if slavery never ended and the Civil Rights movement never happened,” the editorial said.

“Hannah-Jones argues that our nation was born out of slavery rather than the Continental Congress, that the Declaration of Independence was written, and a Revolution fought, primarily in defense of slavery. Neither is true, nor is the idea that modern policing has its roots in slave patrols, or that capitalism is inherently racist,” the newspaper concluded. “But as with the defense of Smollett, the facts don’t matter. He’s a black man, so he must be innocent. The system cannot be trusted.

“This is what these activists want to tell schoolkids. It’s not ‘teaching slavery,’ it’s teaching Marxism. The police, the government, the economy, it all must go. BLM just said out loud what is hiding behind the slogans. Who is listening?”

As for Smollett, he remains free on bond after being found guilty for lying to police in a fanciful tale about two people he described as white men wearing MAGA hats attacking him in downtown Chicago during an early morning run to Subway, shouting racial and homophobic slurs, pouring an unknown chemical substance, possibly bleach, on him and tying a noose around his neck while yelling “This is MAGA country!”

There is currently no date for sentencing, but the judge scheduled a presentencing hearing on Jan. 27.
