Guido Russo tried to circumvent Italy’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate by using a silicone prosthetic arm he purchased on Amazon and is now in hot water with investigators for attempted fraud while claiming the ruse has also “ruined” his life.

The Italian dentist, 57, has reportedly refused to get vaccinated previously. Thursday, he was forced to show up at a vaccine center in Biella due to the nation’s vaccine mandate where he wore the fake arm in an attempt to fool a nurse, the Corriere Della Sera newspaper reported.

“Go away, you have ruined my life,” the ticked dentist told reporters from behind a door of a villa in Pettinengo. “Go away, I’ll call the carabinieri.”

“I don’t want to get the vaccine, but I need the green pass to work,” Russo told the nurse, Filippa Bua, la Repubblica reported on Sunday. He tried to pass off the fake arm for his own but the nurse immediately detected that something was off and told him to remove his shirt revealing the silicone prosthetic that covered his chest and arms.

“It was well-made, but it wasn’t the same color,” she noted. “At first I thought I made a mistake — that it was a patient with an artificial arm.”

“I understood immediately that the man was trying to avoid the vaccination by using a silicone prosthetic, into which he hoped that I would inject the drug, unaware, Bua said.

He joked while asking the 60-year-old nurse to give him a break on getting his green pass, “Would you have imagined that I’d have such a physique?”

A disciplinary committee is considering fraud charges.

The dentist has been in trouble before as well. In 2016, he was accused of practicing dentistry illegally in his Valle Mosso office.

“An action like this would be serious for anyone, but it is even more serious because it offends our profession and our order,” Franco Ferrero, who is the president of the Biella medical association, told the Italian newspaper. “It is a lack of respect towards those who in these two years of pandemic have worked with self-denial and a spirit of service even at detriment to his own health.”

Bua was also offended by Russo’s ploy and said that he insulted medical professionals with his hoax.

Russo called the fake appendage a “stage costume.” The arm reportedly sold for approximately $564 on Amazon.

“I am incredulous and very stressed,” Bua told Corriere Della Sera in an interview. “In the last few weeks, everyone who shows up for the first dose of the vaccine, they are angry with the ‘system’ and feel obligated. My colleagues and I try to lower the level of tension by not giving our side to any provocation. But I’m really tired and just as sorry to see these people who do not understand how much the vaccine is essential to protect their health and their loved ones.”

Healthcare workers were already mandated to be vaccinated in Italy. The country’s “super green pass” requires proof of vaccination or recovery from the virus.

The dentist has been unable to work “for some time” because of his refusal to get the jab. He has been suspended while he’s under investigation, according to Corriere della Sera.

A sign outside of Russo’s practice indicates he has no intention of checking to see if patients are vaccinated or not. The sign informs patients that it is “exclusively voluntary” to show their green passes.

Many can understand the desperation of this dentist:
