Former President Trump has thrown his full, unconditional support behind Idaho’s Lt. Governor Janice McGeachin in the 2022 election, giving her his “complete and total endorsement” and snubbing Governor Brad Little who is the incumbent in the conservative state.
“Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin has been a true supporter of MAGA since the very beginning,” Trump wrote in a press release on Tuesday. “She is brave and not afraid to stand up for the issues that matter most to the people of Idaho, a beautiful state that I won by 30.8%.” He also said, “I am giving Janice McGeachin my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next Governor of Idaho. She will make a fantastic Governor, and will never let you down!”
“I am delighted and honored to receive President Trump’s endorsement,” McGeachin said in a statement. “President Trump continues to represent the energy and enthusiasm of conservative Republican politics, and his emphatic acknowledgment of our diligent efforts to advance the conservative agenda in Idaho will only help us to expand and grow our campaign based on individual liberty, state sovereignty, and traditional conservative values. I welcome President Trump’s help in restoring these principles that have Made Idaho and America Great.”
McGeachin also called Trump’s endorsement a “great honor” on social media.
“President Trump is a true fighter for America and I am a true fighter for Idaho. Much more to come from the two of us to bring America First back to Idaho. Stay tuned! #idpol #MAGA,” she tweeted, calling Trump the “greatest President of our lifetime.”

“As Governor, I have worked effectively with Idahoans to make Idaho the least regulated state in the country and maintain the strongest economy,” Little asserted in a statement to The Associated Press on Wednesday in response to Trump’s endorsement of McGeachin. “We’re pushing back on Biden’s vaccine mandates and unprecedented government overreach while banning vaccine passports here in Idaho.”
Little recently traveled to Florida to attend the America First Policy Institute Gala at Mar-a-Lago where he was recognized by Trump. The trip which included his press secretary, Marissa Morrison Hyer, cost Idaho taxpayers in excess of $2,000, KPVI-TV reported. Little didn’t bother to tell his lieutenant governor that he was going on the trip.
While he was gone, McGeachin contends he broke the law by not putting her in charge of the state.
There was also an incident in October where McGeachin, who was acting governor in Little’s absence, decided to “fix” the governor’s previous executive order on vaccine passports to ensure vaccines wouldn’t be required in educational institutions in the state of Idaho. She also looked into sending National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border.
Little rescinded her actions when he returned home to the state.
Today, as Acting Governor, I fixed Gov. Little's Executive Order on "vaccine passports" to make sure that K-12 schools and universities cannot require vaccinations OR require mandatory testing. I will continue to fight for your individual Liberty! #idpol pic.twitter.com/Jz87jfZaWc

Little wrote a letter to McGeachin last week informing her he would no longer ask her to step in as acting governor whenever he’s out of the state.
He has previously called her executive orders in his absence “an irresponsible, self-serving political stunt.” But while he may disapprove, Idaho residents seem to overwhelmingly support McGeachin.
The lieutenant governor announced her candidacy for governor back in May and Little, who is a first-term governor, is expected to seek re-election. The governor and the lieutenant governor run on separate tickets in the state of Idaho.
Trump is seen as a kingmaker in the Republican Party and his endorsement is likely to clench McGeachin’s GOP nomination in the state.
The Idaho secretary of state’s office lists 14 active gubernatorial candidates, including eight Republicans and two Democrats currently. The Republican primary will be held in mid-May.
McGeachin is strongly supported in Idaho:

Congratulations, Lt. Governor McGeachin. This certainly shakes up the race. I hope that Idaho Republicans can come together to elect a great conservative patriot who will do better than Governor Little.
