Tucker rails over ‘single most deranged news story ever printed’

Fox News host Tucker Carlson called attention to a stunning Wall Street Journal story about the U.S. government looking to pay reparations to illegal immigrants to insist that the Biden administration is actively encouraging illegal immigration.

In what Carlson called “the single most deranged news story ever printed in this country,” the WSJ reported that under President Biden, the U.S. is “considering payments of $450,000 per each person affected by the Trump administration’s zero-tolerance policy in 2018” that resulted in migrant families being separated when parents were arrested and taken into custody for violating U.S. immigration laws. The negotiations are reportedly part of an effort to resolve lawsuits filed on behalf of migrant families who say the U.S. government subjected them to lasting psychological trauma.

The WSJ reported: “The U.S. Departments of Justice, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services are considering payments that could amount to close to $1 million a family, though the final numbers could shift, the people familiar with the matter said. Most of the families that crossed the border illegally from Mexico to seek asylum in the U.S. included one parent and one child, the people said. Many families would likely get smaller payouts, depending on their circumstances, the people said.”

“As the guy who runs the Babylon Bee told us recently, it is getting tough to run a parody site in this country. No matter how creative your jokes may be, it is almost impossible to be more ludicrous than reality already is,” Carlson commented on his show Thursday.

“And yet, even by those impossibly high standards, we can confidently announce tonight that we have just read the single most deranged news story ever printed in this country. So no matter what happens going forward – and God knows what that will be — This story will live forever is the high water mark of political lunacy. Mark your calendars. It’s October 28, 2021. This is the day that things couldn’t possibly get nuttier,” he added.

“According to a piece in this afternoon’s Wall Street Journal, the Biden administration has decided to pay reparations to illegal aliens,” the Fox News host continued. “In other words, foreigners who came here without invitation, who came in willful violation of legal statutes passed by our Congress, per our Constitution, those people are about to get a groveling apology and huge amounts of cash. Why? Because our government dared to enforce its own laws, which now apparently is immoral. So the Biden White House is going to pay criminals for committing crimes.”

Carlson explained that in addition to $450,000 per person, the administration is considering payments that could amount to close to $1 million per family, according to the WSJ. And that there have been nearly a thousand reparations claims already filed — which adds up to a tidy billion-dollar payout to foreign nationals who defy our immigration laws, at the expense of U.S. taxpayers.

“You’ve got to wonder how long this sort of thing can continue,” Carlson concluded. “How long before the people who make this country run who, by the way, are not the same people who run this country — those are two very different groups – but before the people who make this country run decide they have had enough and they’re not going to take it anymore. Why pay your taxes at this point? Seriously, it’s too insulting. It’s too destructive. It is evil. Now, who knows how long it’s going to take to get there, but at this rate, it’s coming quick.”

If there was a theme to the response to the story, it may center around the term “insanity.” Republican lawmakers used the word often, as seen in a response from Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark.

“It would be unthinkable to pay damages to a burglar who broke into your home for the ‘psychological trauma’ they endured during the crime. And yet the Biden administration wants to reward migrants who illegally entered our country with up to $450,000 each for just that reason. The Biden administration’s promises of citizenship and entitlement programs have already caused the worst border crisis in history—a huge cash reward will make it even worse. This is the height of insanity,” Cotton said in a statement.

Here’s a sampling of other responses from GOP lawmakers on Twitter, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.:
