‘Irrelevant part of our country’: House Dem trashes entire state of West Virginia over Manchin fury

The ugliness directed at Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia by the progressive left is building as he remains a major obstacle to the Biden administration’s radical climate change agenda that will dramatically reconfigure America while decimating the traditional domestic energy industry.

Tempers flared following a New York Times report that President Joe Biden’s mammoth $3.5 trillion “Build Back Better” spending package may need to be altered so as to remove elements that Manchin “strongly opposes” in order to get him on board and that White House staffers are scrambling to rewrite the bill, possibly scrapping the plan to replace coal and gas-fired power plants entirely.

One Democrat, Rep. Sean Casten of Illinois went so far as to trash the entire state of West Virginia as he lashed out over the prospect that the Clean Electricity Performance Program (CEPP), which is a key component of the Green New Deal policies included in the massive bill, could be eliminated to appease Manchin, telling Politico that the state was an “irrelevant part of our economy,” a perfect example of the contempt that Democrats have for ordinary Americans.

If the legislative package passes in its current form, the Mountaineer State would be hit particularly hard since coal is a major part of the economy and such a job-killing measure would be devastating to families who rely on the coal industry to put food on the table and roofs over the heads of their children.

In the full context of remarks to Politico, he suggested that West Virginia could be given an exemption because the state just doesn’t matter.

“If you came and said to me, ‘We will pass the CEPP as written but we will exempt West Virginia from it, I would take that deal. Do I think that’s possible? I mean, probably not, but that would be acceptable, right? Because West Virginia is an irrelevant part of our economy,” Casten said.

The insult predictably did not go over well with West Virginia Republicans who harshly responded.

Rep. Shelley Moore Capito pointed out that CEPP would “destroy communities and families” which was “okay” with Casten.

Rep. Carol Miller said it was “the latest example of how out of touch Washington Democrats are with hardworking families in West Virginia and across the country.”

She added, “This isn’t just about West Virginia, this is about every community that’s being left behind and forced to pay the bill for radical socialist policies,” in a statement to Fox Business.

In another statement to Fox Business, Rep. Alex Mooney encouraged Manchin to stand firm, “I urge Sen. Manchin to continue to stand up for a commonsense, all-of-the-above energy approach,”

In an extended Twitter rant that he posted over the weekend, Casten wailed in frustration about the Senate, at one point citing Winston Churchill that Democracy is “perhaps the worst form of government” and calling out anyone who opposes the CEPP as “a tinfoil-hat wearing, science denying, fossil-fuel engorged moron” while suggesting that they are acting as de facto agents of the Chinese regime.

He also tweeted that the Senate was “anti-Democratic,” a clueless statement considering that the 52 senators opposing such an extreme overhaul included two Democrats.

And of course, the Senate is racist too, as is every institution that stands in the way of the Democrats and their extreme agenda.

Hardly the sort of language that will persuade anyone to consider engaging in a reasoned and rational conversation, but when it comes to Democrats, sadly it is par for the course.
