Former President Bill Clinton was admitted to the University of California Irvine Medical Center on Tuesday with what is being reported as a “non-COVID-related” infection.
The former president’s spokesperson Angel Ureña said in a statement that Clinton, 75, is “on the mend, in good spirits and is incredibly thankful to the doctors, nurses, and staff providing him with excellent care.”
A source close to the situation told Fox News Clinton’s condition was “diagnosed as a urological infection which morphed into a broader infection. As you can see in his statement from his doctors, the prognosis is good and they hope to have him home soon. He’s up and about, joking and charming the hospital staff.”
He was in Southern California to attend private events related to the Clinton Foundation and was admitted to the hospital after feeling fatigued following a gathering with some friends, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Clinton’s doctors reportedly said he was in good spirits, talking to family and staff, and that he has been up and walking.
“Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and her aide Huma Abedin were seen leaving the hospital and departing in a motorcade that was accompanied by local law enforcement vehicles,” Fox News reported, adding that she also appeared to be in good spirits.

A joint statement from Dr. Alpesh Amin, chairman of the Department of Medicine at the University of California, and Dr. Lisa Bardack, director of Hospital Medicine for UCI Health was shared online by Urena.
“President Clinton was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center and diagnosed with an infection. He was admitted to the hospital for close monitoring and administered IV antibiotics and fluids. He remains at the hospital for continuous monitoring,” the doctors said in the statement. “After two days of treatment, his white blood cell count is trending down and he is responding to antibiotics well. The California-based medical team has been in constant communication with the President’s New York-based medical team, including his cardiologist. We hope to have him go home soon.”

When first reporting the news of Clinton’s hospitalization, Fox News host Sean Hannity sent his best wishes while taking a jab at the often hate-filled left, “We do wish the former president well, unlike liberals that just hate all conservatives — they get sick, they don’t care.”
Later on “Hannity,” Fox News medical contributor Marty Makary was brought on to comment on the former president’s health, and Hannity revisited that theme.
“We wish the president well, we obviously have political differences but unlike liberals, I actually care about human life,” the Fox News host said. “I hope he’s going to be okay.”
Makary said Clinton was admitted to the hospital “with what is described it to be a blood infection, specifically a condition known as sepsis.”
“There is a wide variation in what sepsis is, it can be a mild infection or it can be life-threatening,” he continued. “We are told it is not Covid and he is on the mend, so we do wish him well and it looks like he’s doing better on antibiotics for this infection.”

When asked if sepsis can be dangerous, Makary replied, “As a matter of fact, many people who die in an ICU die of sepsis. It’s when an infection goes out of control in one’s system and overwhelms the physiology of one’s system. He is 75 years of age, so his immune defenses are going to be a little weaker. He has had a heart bypass seizure in the past, called a cabbage [a coronary artery bypass, CABG] — so perhaps his physiology is a little weakened. But it’s reassuring to know that he’s doing better.”
In closing out the segment, Hannity commented again on how he cares about people, regardless of their political views.
“Why isn’t everybody happy that whatever protocol he used in conjunction with his own doctor, that he’s okay and healthy?” he asked. “How many times have I said I want every American in Afghanistan home, I don’t care what their politics are. If they’re coming home to get me fired full-time and work to get me fired full-time, I still want them home. If every liberal that gets Covid wants to get well to get me fired because they don’t like my opinions, I still want them to get well.”
“You don’t always see that from the left. You can look at comments at different times and it’s pretty brutal out there. Especially people that are anonymous in their basement in their underwear,” Hannity concluded.
