Parents Defending Education (PDE) revealed on Tuesday that Attorney General Merrick Garland’s daughter Rebecca Garland is married to the co-founder of Panorama Education, which promotes Critical Race Theory to school boards across the nation.
Garland is being accused by PDE of a conflict of interest due to his ties to the company. This follows the attorney general ordering the FBI to investigate threats against teachers and other education officials.
“US Attorney General Merrick Garland’s daughter is MARRIED to the cofounder of Panorama. WATCH. Garland has a serious conflict of interest,” PDE Vice President of Investigations and Strategy Asra Nomani tweeted.
“Merrick Garland has declared a war on parents. His daughter is married to the cofounder of [Panorama Education] which is under fire for its multimillion contracts with school boards,” she stated. She accused Garland of “trying to silence parents.” Nomani also stated that they were “a Trojan horse for Big Tech in K-12 schools.”
Know this. The reason we know this. One mom. Yes, one mom. She sent a tip to us @DefendingEd and told us about the now $2.4 million contract @fcpsnews made with @PanoramaEd. She did a Google search and told us Panorama’s cofounder is the son in law of Merrick Garland. One mom. https://t.co/SEML6raZ8X

At the same time that Nomani was calling Garland out, another PDE leader tweeted screenshots of what she alleged were Panorama Education surveys.
“Parents are concerned over intrusive surveys and ‘screeners’ that ask 12-year-olds if they are pansexual or gender fluid. The surveys are often created/administered by [Panorama Education],” Erika Sanzi noted.
Clarification: the images in the tweet below of a survey asking students whether they are “pansexual, aromantic / asexual” comes from Cambridge Education LLC. Here is a @PanoramaEd survey asking students if they are “genderqueer, nonbinary, or fluid.”https://t.co/wI4VC8yzwj https://t.co/Cp5h4ewRdR pic.twitter.com/vGJ3BTzanD

One image reportedly shows a survey that asks whether the child is “gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, aromantic, asexual, or questioning.” A second image shows a question that asks about the child’s gender, offering the following options: Male, Female, Transgender Male, Transgender Female, Genderqueer or Genderfluid, Questioning, My identity is not listed, Prefer not to answer.
Panorama Education claims to be “an independent education organization that partners with schools and districts to support student literacy and social-emotional learning,” according to the Daily Mail. They also contend they are “not affiliated with any particular academic philosophy, including Critical Race Theory.”
“Our technology is used to help schools gather feedback from students, families, and educators. Panorama only uses student data for the purpose of helping schools and districts better serve their students,” they contend.
“The only relationship between Panorama Education and Attorney General Merrick Garland is that Panorama’s co-founder Xan Tanner is AG Garland’s son-in-law,” the group asserted.
Panorama Education has used its data systems to collect information on students in New York City, Detroit, San Francisco, Indianapolis, and Dallas, among other cities, according to their website. It should be noted that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is a prominent financial backer of the group.

“Under fire for negatively harming the mental health of children, Zuckerberg and Garland’s family are now in the business of data mining children’s most intimate emotions — and supposedly help children deal with the mental health issues Zuckerberg helped manifest,” Nomani remarked,
Nomani also accused Garland of attempting to silence those that oppose school boards and with assisting his son-in-law in keeping in place extremely lucrative contracts that promote Critical Race Theory. His contract with Fairfax County Public Schools was reportedly bumped up to more than $2 million early last month.
Garland’s announcement of the FBI investigating threats to teachers and school board members occurred after the National School Board Association pleaded with the Biden administration to intervene in the “immediate threat” posed to education officials by anti-CRT and anti-mask protesters.
The NSBA was slammed for appearing to compare parental activism to “domestic terrorism.”
“Coupled with attacks against school board members and educators for approving policies for masks to protect the health and safety of students and school employees, many public school officials are also facing physical threats because of propaganda purporting the false inclusion of Critical Race Theory within classroom instruction and curricula,” the letter to the Biden administration reads.
Nomani blasted the letter. “This is what a domestic terrorist looks like? You are criminalizing parenting, and you owe the people of America a swift apology,” she declared in a video on Twitter.
I taped a message to the Nat’l Association of School Boards. I am what a domestic terrorist looks like? You owe parents an apology! Politely message them @NSBAPublicEd, 703-838-6722 [email protected] Copy me. We reject violence. I am an #UnapologeticParent ❤️ Like you! @defendinged pic.twitter.com/2cSqzDuj9C

Panorama Education’s website contains numerous articles concerning so-called “unconscious bias,” “systemic racism,” “privilege,” “equity,” “anti-racism,” and other concepts linked to Critical Race Theory.
Fox News host Tucker Carlson pointed out on Wednesday, “All of this raises serious ethical issues. The DOJ’s rules require employees to seek official guidance before ‘participating in any matter in which his or her impartiality could be questioned.’ That includes situations in which matters can ‘Affect the financial interests’ of a ‘relative with whom a [DOJ] employee has a close relationship.’”
“That would probably include your daughter, Merrick Garland. Did you do that? You can be assured that no one at the DOJ’s National Security Division is investigating that question tonight. Instead, they’re promising to go after people … and designate them domestic terrorists,” Carlson concluded.

Garland’s daughter married Xan Tanner in 2018, according to a New York Times wedding announcement. Both are Yale graduates.
