New book claims WH aides protected Biden from ‘unscripted events’ using a ‘wall’

Bob Woodward and Robert Costa’s new book “Peril” claims that White House aides set up a “wall” between President Joe Biden and reporters to avoid interviews and unscripted events fearing that he might lose his temper, misspeak, or gaffe.

The book references altercations between Biden and the press including one where he got into it with a CNN reporter and then later apologized. He also called an NBC reporter a pain in the neck in one incident.

“That side of Biden — his tendency to at times be testy or mangle statements — was still with him and now part of his presidency,” the book asserts, according to Fox News.

Allegedly, several Biden aides told the authors that Chief of Staff Ronald Klain and then-White House advisor Anita Dunn both attempted to prevent more incidents from occurring by keeping him away from “unscripted events or long interviews.”

“They called the effect ‘the wall,’ a cocooning of the president,” the book contends.

Despite their intense efforts, the president has still managed to gaffe over and over again and lose his temper with the press.

The book also claims that the White House went into damage control mode after Biden announced that a major bipartisan infrastructure deal had been struck and then turned around and stated that it was contingent on a more massive liberal spending package being passed.

The authors claim that the statement shocked Democrats who had seen the initial infrastructure bill and the social spending package as two separate deals. They said that the statement also angered Republicans. Democrats supposedly had to work the phones to mitigate the damage and then Biden had to give a statement to clarify exactly what he meant.

The book makes a number of claims including asserting that General Mark Milley went behind former President Trump’s back and communicated with the Chinese to assure them he would forewarn their leadership of an impending attack if one ever came.

This is not the first claim that White House aides have worked to keep Biden from the press as much as possible because they were anxious over what he would say or do.

Earlier in September, Politico came out with a report that some White House staffers reportedly turn off the TV or mute it when President Biden comes on because they fear he will misspeak, take questions, do unscripted interviews, or that he will veer off message according to officials.

“I know people who habitually don’t watch it live for that reason,” claimed one White House source to Politico.

When addressing FEMA earlier in September, he stated, “I’m not supposed to take any questions, but go ahead.” You hear that excuse frequently from Biden. He is known for mumbling, forgetting what he is saying or where he’s speaking, not remembering names, and veering wildly off-topic.

Between not taking questions, yelling at reporters, turning his back on the press and walking away, Biden has a well-earned reputation as a gaffe machine and as being highly unpredictable when engaging with journalists.

Many have also questioned Biden’s fitness for office as he seems to frequently forget names, what he’s saying, and where he is. It appears the staff’s proclaimed wall or cocoon was doomed from the beginning due to Biden’s missteps.
