Forty percent of shoppers add healthy food to their shopping cart to avoid judgment from the cashier; a notion that could explain a far more sinister reality of restricted freedoms, self-imposed or otherwise, based on what others think.
Fox News host Greg Gutfeld discussed the results of a new poll on Tuesday that found some Americans have become so squishy, they are unable to make a decision as menial as potato chips or veggie sticks for themselves.
One of the many side-effects of the coronavirus pandemic that goes undetected stems from a year and a half of polarizing government regulation that has led to mass acceptance of groupthink.
“Does the cashier make you run when buying a Carvel cake for one?” Gutfeld joked, “…Apparently because we value the opinion of purple-haired chicks with homemade neck tattoos.”
One does not have to look far to see the impact of heavy-handed government mandates. There are many reasons why those who observe the mandates do so, for example, for their welfare or the welfare of others who are immunocompromised. However, many also do so out of fear of judgment from their peers.
Just take a look around to see how many Americans continue to wear masks, and not because they are particularly effective, in fact the opposite is true. When that is taken into consideration, it’s no wonder 40 percent of Americans spend money on grocery items that they don’t want because they are afraid of what other people think of them.

“This story is stupid, Greg. It’s a lie, virtue signaling at its finest. No one gives a d***,” Fox News contributor Tyrus said as he griped about the perils of the always-malfunctioning self-checkout machine.
“If you don’t want people to see what you’re buying, you need to decide between do you want just the one cashier to see what you’re buying and the people behind you, or do you want to try to do it yourself and it misses the right part of the bag. Then it’s ‘beep beep, help is on the way’ and everyone is looking at you, every single time,” Kat Timpf, Fox News contributor interjected.
To highlight the sheer ridiculousness of checkout anxiety, Gutfeld said he avoids it by shopping undercover and queued a clip of a man in a pleather bodysuit grocery shopping. Crazy, but is America that far off?
Think back to when New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg tried to ban the Big Gulp and cap other sugary drinks.

The same viewer pointed out the possible threat of food mandates in the future that could increase your insurance premiums dependent upon your consumption habits in the same way the employers are mandating vaccines.

Checkout anxiety may not be cause for concern, but some of the psychological realities tied to it could create the perfect conditions for the acceptance of more government-imposed regulations and the further relinquishment of freedoms in the future.
Fear of judgment for how others perceive one’s choices and the increasing number of those who are easily manipulated by government or societal pressures could make America more vulnerable than ever to socialist policies and overreaching, power-hungry politicians.
