Battle goes as conservatives expected after Dan Rather unwisely picks a fight with Ted Cruz

Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather seems to be continuing his long tradition of embarrassing himself by disastrously deciding to take on Senator Ted Cruz over vaccine passports.

Rather evidently did not expect a retort from Cruz after attacking him for a CNBC interview where the Texas senator stood firmly against vaccine passports for Americans. Cruz pointed out that vaccinations may save lives, but he took the constitutional view that they should still be a personal choice.

“We shouldn’t step into a regime where the government says ‘show us your papers’ if you want to do the basic activities of life,” Cruz stated saying that we should not have any COVID mandates.

Rather thought he would one-up Cruz by taking a swipe at him on Twitter over the senator leaving Texas during a brutal ice storm for Cancun to get his family out of harm’s way. That attack did not go as planned.

“Don’t you have to show your papers to get on a flight to Cancun, and check into a luxury hotel?” Rather snarked.

The juvenile attack was nonsequitur and had nothing to do with vaccine passports but Rather thought it would get him media attention, which it did. He just couldn’t pass up an opportunity to take a jab at Ted Cruz.

Cruz crushed Rather in his Twitter response, “I suppose I could use fraudulent papers like the ones you counterfeited to attack Bush. You were so partisan & dishonest that CBS fired you for fraud, which is really saying something. So now you’re an angry Leftist who reflexively defends Dems & authoritarian mandates.”

Instead of debating Cruz on his statements against vaccine passports, Rather chose to take the low road and use ridicule. But it did not even come close to invalidating Cruz’s stated premise concerning the subject.

“My view on COVID, it is a serious disease,” Cruz said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” “We, as a country, have taken extraordinary steps. We’ve also imposed enormous harms on our economy and people’s lives and livelihoods and families. We need to balance those appropriately.”

It should be noted that both Ted Cruz and his wife, as well as their parents, have had their COVID vaccines. That was their personal choice but they don’t believe it should be forced on Americans.

“I don’t think anyone should make you take the vaccine,” stated Cruz. “You should be able to make your own medical decision with your doctor. I have faith they will weigh with pros and cons and make a determination whether or not to take the vaccine.”

Really, Cruz didn’t even have to answer the disgraced journalist‘s childish slur. Others on Twitter torched Rather for him:
