Reporter asks maskless Pelosi about calling McCarthy a ‘moron’ for criticizing House mask mandate

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D) reportedly called Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R) a “moron” on Wednesday when she was asked about a comment he made concerning reimposing mask mandates for vaccinated Americans.

“Make no mistake—The threat of bringing masks back is not a decision based on science, but a decision conjured up by liberal government officials who want to continue to live in a perpetual pandemic state,” McCarthy proclaimed on Tuesday in response to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revising their pandemic mask guidelines.

A reporter asked a maskless Pelosi to comment on McCarthy’s statement and she purportedly responded while getting into her SUV outside the Capitol, “He’s such a moron.”

There is no love lost between the two politicos and their animosity at times spills over into the public forum especially when it comes to masking up, enforced vaccinations, and the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. There has been a battle raging in the House of Representatives for months concerning Pelosi’s mask mandate. Now that the CDC is recommending that some Americans that are fully vaccinated go back to wearing masks indoors once more due to the Delta Variant spreading, the hostility between Democrats and Republicans is exploding.

Pelosi’s spokesperson doubled down on her “moron” comment in a subsequent tweet. “Unfortunately, we can’t verify this audio because of poor quality, but I can confirm that the Speaker believes that saying a mask requirement is ‘not a decision based on science’ is moronic,” Spokesman Drew Hammill tweeted.

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky stated on Tuesday that the reasoning behind the new mask guideline is that “in rare occasions, some vaccinated people infected with the delta variant after vaccination may be contagious and pass the virus to others.”

Immediately following the mask recommendation, Capitol Attending Physician Brian Monahan once again issued a mask mandate for House of Representatives office buildings and the chamber itself. Pelosi claims the decision was made without input from her.

“That’s the purview of the capitol physician,” she noted, “a mandate from him. I have nothing to say about that except we honor it with our masks.”

“For all House Office Buildings, the Hall of the House, and House Committee Meetings, wearing of a well-fitted, medical-grade, filtration face mask is required when an individual is in an interior space and other individuals are present,” a memo from Monahan said. “To be clear, for meetings in an enclosed US House of Representatives controlled space, masks are REQUIRED.”

McCarthy questioned the science behind the speaker’s decision to back the reimposition of masks.

“Well if she’s so bright, I’d like to know where the science changes in the Capitol, between the House and the Senate,” he said, referring to different rules in the two chambers regarding masks.

“I never think it’s productive when I talk to her,” McCarthy told CNN.

Signs went up at the White House on Tuesday notifying everyone that masks were now mandatory.

Democrats across the nation rushed to issue their own mask mandates in the wake of the CDC ruling. Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak (D) issued a mask mandate for the majority of the counties in the state. Kansas City, Missouri Mayor Quinton Lucas announced on Tuesday night that he will be issuing a mask mandate for his city as well. Many more are expected to follow suit. There is no word on if, or even when, these mandates will be lifted.

Pelosi’s hypocrisy was not lost on conservatives:
