Fauci says he’s talking with CDC about new mask mandate, Americans are furious

Dr. Fauci incensed much of America after appearing on CNN with anchor Jake Tapper Saturday stating that he was “part of the discussion” with the CDC on reinstating a national mask mandate which is “under active consideration.”

Fauci and leading health officials are considering bringing back the mask mandate for vaccinated individuals. He would not commit to which way he leans on the subject.

“We’re going in the wrong direction,” Fauci declared. “And since we have 50 percent of the country [that] is not fully vaccinated, that’s a problem, particularly when you have a variant like Delta, which has this extraordinary characteristic of being able to spread very efficiently and very easily from person to person.”

Fauci’s promotion of another mask mandate comes as Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Walensky told the Senate Health Committee last week that the Delta Variant is “spreading with incredible efficiency and now represents more than 83% of the virus circulating in the United States.” But that statistic ostensibly applies primarily to the unvaccinated which brings into question why a mask mandate would be reimplemented for those who have already been inoculated.

According to reports, those who are being hospitalized and who are succumbing to the virus are primarily those who have not been vaccinated. Kristen Choi, an assistant professor at UCLA School of Nursing, told Yahoo Finance that approximately 99 percent of hospitalizations are those who have not been inoculated.

Biden’s chief medical adviser pointed out that the CDC guidelines currently still recommend that those who are vaccinated don’t need to wear a mask. They are, however, leaving it up to the discretion of local officials to make that call and to reinstate a mask mandate if they think it is warranted.

Fauci told Tapper that there are “two kinds of America,” drawing a line between the “very vulnerable unvaccinated” and the “really relatively protected vaccinated part.” He called for elected leaders in “areas that are not vaccinated to get out and speak out and encourage people to get vaccinated.”

“If you’re looking at what’s going on locally, in the trenches, in places like LA county, the local officials have the discretion, and the CDC agrees with that ability and discretion capability, to say ‘you know, you’re in a situation where we’re having a lot of dynamics of infection, but even if you are vaccinated, you should wear a mask,” stated Fauci. “And we’re seeing that in L.A. We’re seeing it in Chicago. We’re seeing that in New Orleans, because the officials there, many of them are saying, ‘Even if you’re vaccinated, it’s prudent to wear a mask indoors.'”

“More mitigation is coming. Whether it’s masking, or whether it’s closures, or whether it’s your kids having to return to virtual learning, that is coming,” Dr. Jerome Adams, former U.S. surgeon general, said on CBS’ “Face the Nation” Sunday backing up Fauci’s predictions. “And it’s coming because this pandemic is spiraling out of control yet again. And it’s spiraling out of control because we don’t have enough people vaccinated.”

Fauci also said government experts are considering whether to recommend that vaccinated individuals get booster shots or not. He posited that those such as organ transplant and cancer patients are “likely” to get a recommendation for a booster shot.
