DeVos says White House is lying, Biden’s Dept of Ed, ‘as far left as you can imagine,’ approved CRT group

Former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, who served in the Trump administration, said Thursday that under the Biden administration, the department is “as far left as you can imagine.”

The Biden administration was forced to walk back their support for a radical, pro-Critical Race Theory activist group named the Abolitionist Teaching Network this week. The group features a handbook calling for teachers to “disrupt whiteness and other forms of oppression,” and accuses the U.S. school system of the “spirit murder” of “Black, Brown and Indigenous children.”

“The Department does not endorse the recommendations of this group, nor do they reflect our policy positions,” the Department of Education said Wednesday. “It was an error in a lengthy document to include this citation.”

DeVos was not buying it, as she explained Thursday during an appearance on Fox News’s “The Story.”

“This notion that it was a mistake is an absolute falsehood,” she told host Martha MacCallum. “Having been there at the department for four years and working through the approval processes for anything that is put out from the department, I know full well that there were eyes on and there was full knowledge of this going on.”

“We saw earlier this year the grant process the department also put out that basically was trying to bribe schools into using the 1619 Project in their materials,” DeVos added. “So, this is just another reflection of the true nature of the Biden Department of Education. And it’s just preposterous.”

The former Trump official pointed to the nomination process for Catherine Lhamon underway for assistant secretary for civil rights at the Department of Education to say Lhamon must be rejected by the U.S. Senate.

“She’s the worst of the worst. Her tenure during the Obama Administration brought in all kinds of left-wing ideology and practices,” DeVos said. “Basically taking teachers’ ability to discipline in the classroom out and putting in racial quotas. Taking out due process protections and Title 9 proceedings. This Department of Education under the Biden administration is about as far left wing as you can imagine and we’re seeing countless examples.”

MacCallum noted that under Biden, the Department of Education is making a return to what was in place under former President Barack Obama, including an apparent “movement against discipline in the classroom.”

“I think it’s all part of the continuum that the Biden administration is promoting through left wing policies as promulgated by the Department of Education,” DeVos said. “It’s another very good reason why parents should continue to raise their voices, should continue to demand that they have control of their kids’ education and not cede to all of these national groups like the NEA and the AFT, who are totally wrapped in with all of the top officials in the Biden Education Department.”

“This ideology is insidious, everywhere,” she concluded. “This is another example of it.”

Conservative author and political commentator Candace Owen responded to the controversy to say the Biden administration “got caught red-handed.”

“[Biden’s] record when he was a senator tells us everything we need to know about him and his opinion of black people. And his true opinion of black Americans is that we are the dumbest part of the population,” Owens told Fox News’s Laura Ingraham.

“He believes that black Americans are the easy pawns,” she continued. “This administration believes that if they keep stoking racial tensions, they can turn black Americans into their permanent soldiers for their policies. And what they’re really trying to do is replace hard academics.”
