‘Corrupt-o-crats’: Ingraham torches Sharpton for reappearing to fight against voting reforms

Fox News’ Laura Ingraham kicked off Friday’s “Ingraham Angle” taking aim at so-called “corrupt-o-crats” including MSNBC host and longtime activist Al Sharpton, who has re-emerged in recent weeks to take up a new cause: Fighting voting reform efforts to protect ballot integrity.

Noting that Sharpton and other activists visited with President Joe Biden at the White House earlier in the day, she railed at Sharpton’s call for a new “movement” to allegedly “protect the right to vote” against Republicans as the party moves to make voting more secure and the results more trustworthy.

Describing Sharpton as a “fraud” who “always has been” one, the host said he only “pretends to care about the plight” of black Americans living in urban centers because he goes on to support left-wing policies that have “helped destroy” their inner-city communities.

“He pretends to promote love and unity, but his bread and butter is fomenting racial unrest.  Without it, he has no identity at all,” Ingraham said.

In the past, Sharpton has been ripped for a number of controversies including promoting phony rape allegations made by a black woman named Tawana Brawley in the 1980s, as well as his involvement in Freddy’s Fashion Mart demonstrations in New York City during riots in Crown Heights.

Ingraham noted that Sharpton appeared with other left-wing activists to meet with Biden on Thursday “about the so-called horrors of state voting laws that merely target corrupt election practices with commonsense rules.”

She went on to play a clip of Sharpton speaking to reporters after meeting with Biden.

“This will be a summer of activism, a summer of getting back into the streets,” Sharpton said.

Ingraham then moved on to show a montage of violent protests from last summer following the George Floyd murder in Minneapolis, intoning that “getting back into the streets” didn’t “work out so well for poor urban Americans.”

One of the clips showed a black woman and small business owner who ripped Black Lives Matter supporters after her shop was destroyed.

“He and his racial flame thrower posse don’t care one whit about the damage and destruction left behind after their so-called peaceful protests,” she said about Sharpton.

Later, the New York-based activist said during an appearance on MSNBC that he planned to “turn up the street-heat” and appealed for others to do the same, while again lamenting GOP voter integrity efforts in states like Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Texas.

“We cannot, I repeat, cannot sit by and allow them to erode our voting rights, which we are on the precipice of,” said Sharpton during an appearance on the network’s “Morning Joe” program.

Ingraham replied that Sharpton isn’t being honest.

“No one is eroding voting rights. He’s lying – which is a common trait among those who think anyone with a thumbprint should be able to show up and vote on election day,” she said, adding that Sharpton’s rhetoric nevertheless was not on the level of that from Marc Morial, the head of the National Urban League and a former Democratic mayor of New Orleans.

During the White House confab with Biden, Morial said that GOP efforts to improve voter integrity and maintain the tradition of the U.S. Senate’s 60-vote filibuster rule is akin to them trying to “impose a system [of] apartheid.”

“You suppress the vote. You elevate the filibuster. You use the Electoral College. You use the nullification of the Supreme Court, which just recently undercut the voting-rights act to try to thwart the power of this grand and glorious, multicultural nation,” Morial charged.

A clearly frustrated Ingraham responded by noting Morial’s hypocrisy, pointing out that the country can’t be “systemically racist” while at the same time being “‘grand and glorious.'”

“Second, by using the word ‘apartheid’ to describe laws that require voter ID, he loses any shred of credibility he may have had,” Ingraham continued.

“Third, it’s not ‘nullification,’ just because the Supreme Court hands down a decision you don’t like,” Ingraham, an attorney by education, added. “Fourth, Obama and Clinton and Biden won under the electoral college, did they not?”

“While Morial urged a peaceful approach to this supposed summer of action, we know that false claims of racism have ignited the streets going back to Michael Brown in Ferguson [Missouri] and Freddie Gray in Baltimore,” she continued.

“Given how Democrats have lied and covered up key facts about everything from kids and Covid to the border, there is no reason to trust them administering elections fairly,” she said as she wrapped up her ‘Angle.’

“By naming their so-called voting rights bill the ‘For the People Act,’ Democrats insult the intelligence of the American people. It’s just another oxymoronic scam by corrupticrats gone wild.”
