Beautiful footage mom took of unguarded singing babysitter goes viral

A video depicting a babysitter being secretly recorded while singing a song from “The Little Mermaid” is taking the web by storm.

The TikTok video has been viewed 2.6 million times as of this writing and was shared by Nicki Maher. The Somerset, Massachusetts resident filmed her babysitter, Delaney Wilson, singing “Part of Your World” from the Disney movie.

Maher is heard in the beginning, whispering to the camera: “This is our babysitter.”

Wilson is seen sitting at a table playing with Maher’s young daughter while offering a beautiful rendition of the song — unbeknownst to her, a rendition that would soon draw millions of admirers.

“I am trying to encourage her to put her voice out there more,” Maher wrote. “But she gets discouraged about the way she looks in her videos. And all I see is beauty. So do my kids. Let’s show her some love so I can get her to sing for us more!!!”

One social media user responded to the clip by saying, “Y’all hired your own Disney Princess!”

Maher told Fox News one of her friends who taught Wilson at school told her about the young lady’s beautiful voice.

She pointed to a moving video Wilson shared on TikTok capturing the moment that Wilson and her mother learned she had been accepted to her dream school, Berklee College of Music.

The touching footage shows a clearly apprehensive Wilson preparing herself for a possible letdown, telling herself: “It’s OK if I don’t, it’s OK.”

As she and her mother read the email, they both suddenly start screaming with joy as they realize that she has been accepted. Overcome by the emotions of the moment, a joyful Wilson breaks into tears.

Ever humble, Wilson overwrote “ugly cry face” on the video clip. Never mind that the moment captured may be even more beautiful than her voice.

Maher told Fox News that the moment made her cry.

“I was like, I love this type of little story,” she said. “She seems so sweet. So I knew she was talented. And to get into Berklee is incredible in itself.”

After hiring her as a babysitter, Maher asked Wilson why she didn’t post more videos of herself singing online.

“That’s when she said to me, ‘I just overthink it and I never feel like I sound good enough, and I just don’t always feel confident in the way I look,’” Maher said. “And it just broke my heart.”

Wilson, who said she had “no idea” Maher was recording her as she sang, told Fox News she received “a lot of negative comments” from people over the last year about “what I like to do and my voice and my persona.”

“I was definitely holding myself back after a really hard year,” she explained.

For the record, Maher received Wilson’s permission to share the video on TikTok.

Maher said the beauty of the video is that Wilson got to hear herself performing in such a relaxed state.

“For me, it was like, wow, like I perform so differently when I don’t know a camera is pointing at me,” Wilson said.

She added that all the attention over the video has been “absolutely crazy.”

“I’ve gotten so many amazing, like, opportunities and just, I’ve met so many amazing people that have reached out and been so kind to me,” Wilson said. “So it’s really helped my confidence and it makes me super happy to know that people do want to hear my voice.”
