It didn’t take long for a disturbing video of a purported Holiday Inn hotel clerk, having what appears to be a mental breakdown after being berated by a disgruntled customer, to take on racial implications.
But then, considering the source, it may have been inevitable, given that the employee was white and the customer was black.
The video was shared by Tariq Nasheed, whose Twitter profile boasts that he’s “the world’s #1 Race Baiter.” Nasheed pretty much sees the world through a prism of color and he took care to note in his tweet the skin color of the clerk and customer.
“A white Holiday Inn Express worker has a nervous breakdown after he got scolded by a Black customer because of a mistake in the reservation system,” he wrote.
The customer is relentless in going after the young man, who’s clearly succumbing to the pressure being applied. He finally snapped, engaging in self-mutilation as he beat himself in the face repeatedly with his own hands before grabbing a nearby keyboard and smashing his head into it.

“So this is the type of people they have working here,” the customer replied, oblivious to the fact that the young man before him was in full distress.
“You’ve ruined my whole life, man,” the clerk said, as he stormed away in tears.
“Wow. You’ve gotta be kidding me,” the customer said, as the employee is heard in another room sobbing uncontrollably.
That the customer was so callous and unconcerned about the emotional breakdown he just witnessed prompted plenty of criticism online, with some accusing him of being a bully.
For those sympathetic to the young man, Nasheed attributed it to them being “white supremacists” in a tweet that included a social media post purportedly from the clerk – a troubling post about being drunk and not wanting to “give up” on life that Nasheed used to claim the man was drunk in the video he shared.
The Holiday Inn employee video I posted that went viral, has a lot of white supremacists using the man’s disorder as a way to project their anti-Black racism.
He admitted he had a disorder. But he also admitted he was drunk on the job. So did that contribute to his breakdown? pic.twitter.com/mJrhiDWI3b

Adding to the complexity of the story, a GoFundMe campaign was launched for the troubled young man and has collected nearly $34,000 as of this writing.
The page was started by Jeremy Hambly, who explained that he was in the process of trying to get in touch with the now-former employee and would surrender all funding once he did so and verified his identity.
Hambly included these quotes from the young man:
“While I’ve now quit this position (my management supported me, and told me I’m welcome back. The guest was ejected from the hotel for escalating issues with staff and the owners.)
ADVERTISEMENT“I do have mental disorders. I suffer from BPD and schizo-affective disorders. What this fine, 5’5” bald gentleman behind the camera DIDN’T record was the fact that he called me a F**GOT for an associates mistake.”
Nasheed was dragged online for sharing the video — which he naturally turned into a racial attack on him. But then, that’s pretty much his sole claim to fame.
Stop projecting your anti-Black racism

That was corny AF.
No wonder why you lames depend on systematic white supremacy

You have zero idea what issue that man has. Cut the “I’m white and I say so” bs

Here’s a sampling of other responses to the story from Twitter:
This is a terrible thing to share. This is someone who clearly has some mental health stuff going on. He needs our support and love right now, not to be shamed for his skin color.
I don’t know how you sleep at night.

This needs to be removed. He could be on the spectrum. There are federal laws protecting our loved ones from this ridicule and abuse. I have autistic twin nephews. Our family would take legal action if anyone posted a video like this!
This is disgusting and possibly illegal.

The person who baited that young guy and caused him such distress is scum. Imagine thinking it’s ok to do that and film it and then share and try to somehow make out the distressed young man is at fault? The guy behind the camera is scum

This was really painful to watch and actually brought tears to my eyes. I couldn’t help but wonder while I was watching this if that is how my daughter, who is on the spectrum, is going to get treated by customers, clients, her supervisors or fellow employees in the workplace.
