Facts behind the shooting and ‘lifestyle’ of Daunte Wright that the media will never show you

Editor’s Note: This article has been updated to correct the details of Daunte Wright’s previous criminal record. An outstanding warrant at the time of the shooting was related to misdemeanor charges on illegally possessing a firearm and fleeing from a police officer. The open warrant on Wright was not related to the aggravated robbery charge, as previously reported.

Conservative political commentator, former police officer, and football player Brandon Tatum is sounding off concerning the facts and truth behind the officer-involved shooting of Daunte Wright.

Tatum made a video to explain the facts surrounding the death of Wright. He made it clear it was not to disparage him but to tell the truth. He claims that the media is lying and painting “rosy pictures” of the tragedy, depicting Wright as an ordinary black person instead of reporting the facts of the case. Tatum says that if you are a law-abiding person, you will never end up as Wright did.

He bluntly laid out the results of Wright’s actions: “If you do what I’m about to explain to you and show you what Daunte is doing and others like him, this can be an expected end for you. It’s either by cop, it’s either by another gang banger or somebody like that or is going to prison for the rest of your life. It’s a mathematical equation: two plus two is four. Two plus two ain’t five. So if you’re doing the right thing and you’re a law-abiding citizen you’re not going to get this outcome. If you’re acting up and you’re selling dope and robbing people and doing this other stuff which I’m going to show you, uh with your pants sagging and guns slanging and talking about guns and money and all this stuff, your two plus two is gonna equal four. Meaning that you’re gonna either go to jail or hell. One of the two is gonna happen.”

Tatum proceeded to show legal documents that illustrate how Wright was leading a life of crime and wasn’t the innocent victim that the media is portraying him to be.

Wright was facing an aggravated robbery charge stemming from an incident in 2019 when he and an accomplice allegedly attempted to rob a woman at gunpoint in her house for over $800. He was reportedly released on $100,000 bail and was due in court on the charges this August, Insider reported according to reviewed records.

When Wright was pulled over for an expired tag last week, police reportedly found he had an outstanding warrant related to misdemeanor charges from 2020, issued April 2, for his failure to appear at a hearing for the charges of possessing a pistol without a permit and fleeing from a police officer, according to the Minnesota State Court Administrator’s Office.

Tatum shows how Wright was in possession of a gun and taking videos of himself showing off with it. He says it was a “lifestyle” for this 20-year-old guy. In the videos, he’s smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol while in possession of a gun as well. He states, “This is not a responsible young man.”

“This is not a young man that’s just going to school trying to live his life. He has a two-year-old daughter, he’s just trying to survive out here in these streets as a black man in America. This is not it,” Tatum said. He also pointed out that Wright was “living out the legacy” he has been listening to in violent rap music. Wright reportedly dropped out of high school.

Tatum then asked if anyone was shocked that he robbed somebody after seeing the way he lived and behaved.

He tore into the family and the media for knowing full well what this kid was like: “Now his mom and them know that this is his character. They know that this kid acts like this but they get on TV and cry and say, “my innocent little boy!” The media said he only had an air freshener and they don’t even talk about the fact he has a warrant. They don’t even talk about what his warrant is for and they want you to believe that your innocent child that was just going to school with his backpack on is just going to get smoked by the police because they’re too incompetent and they fear… they just afraid of black men.”

Tatum also said there is no excuse for the officer pulling her gun instead of a Taser. He said you’d have to be completely incompetent to do that. He did not excuse the police officer but he did say that the open warrant and Wright’s actions definitely contributed to the tragedy. If Wright had not resisted arrest and tried to flee, he would still be alive.

He points out that the media is trying to insinuate that Wright was a loving father. But he demonstrably wasn’t and Tatum tells them to quit lying about these young black men. “Start telling the truth so we can fix it,” he pleaded.

The former police officer noted that if George Floyd, Eric Garner, Walter Scott, Tamir Rice, and others had not resisted arrest, they would be alive today as well. Tatum hopes that is a lesson that black men will learn. He states that the media need to quit lying about the issues these young men have. They need to tell the truth.
