Biden admin dismantles Trump-era office protecting employment rights for U.S. graduates

President Joe Biden’s administration has dismantled an office established earlier this month during former President Donald Trump’s final weeks in office aimed at protecting millions of American graduates from government-sponsored corporate discrimination regarding hiring, pay, and rights within the workplace.

Trump officials announced the formation of the worker rights office Jan. 13, but officials in the new administration eliminated it on Tuesday, Breitbart News reported.

The office, in existence less than two weeks and which likely would have protected scores of young Biden voters as well, was set up to catalog and expose discriminatory corporate practices against American employees via the massive Occupational Practical Training (OPT) program.

The program handed out work permits to some 400,000 foreign graduates in 2019 so enabling them to take jobs and other employment opportunities sought and needed by U.S. graduates. Under program rules, foreign workers are far cheaper to hire and easier to manage than are American graduates.

OPT workers are considered temporary foreign contractors, not immigrants.

Cancellation of the office comes as the U.S. unemployment rate of 6.7 percent last month remains well above the Trump-era pre-pandemic level of 3.5 percent in February 2020.

Kevin Lynch, founder of U.S. Tech Workers, a group that fights the replacement of U.S. graduates with foreign workers, said the elimination of the worker’s rights office won’t be good for many young Americans who cast votes for the former vice president and long-serving U.S. senator from Delaware.

“Biden was selected by the corporatocracy [which sees] no role for American graduates,” Lynch told Breitbart News, adding that American graduates “are not needed” by corporate employers who can simply import a cheaper workforce of people who are compliant and disposable.

In addition, the cancellation of the office was hailed by the open-borders lobby including immigration lawyers who help Fortune 500 companies find and import foreign graduates who go on to take jobs from Americans saddled with tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of student debt.

“Thx @MDVisas for passing along some good news for F-1 students. Good example of how rolling back obscure Trumpy immigration changes will look,” he wrote on Twitter.

In another sign that the Biden White House does not appear to be prioritizing American workers, administration officials have also blocked a recent policy from the Department of Labor limiting the outsourcing of American jobs through the massive H2-B program.

The decisions appear to align with the corporate interests of major U.S.-founded big tech corporations, many of which are well-represented in the Biden administration., an advocacy group founded by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, hailed the Biden administration’s deference to foreign workers.

“We commend the Biden-Harris Administration for taking immediate action to turn the page from the Trump-Pence Administration’s disastrous immigration policies, and to do right by more than 100,000 hardworking immigrants who are contributing to the United States every single day in the midst of a deadly pandemic,” the group said in a statement.

The organization also praised the administration for ending a rule that required foreign students to return home after they receive their credentials from an American college or university. Without the rule, scores of foreign graduates go on to overstay their visas and remain in white-collar jobs as illegal aliens, Breitbart News added.
