The post-Trump direction of the Republican Party remains a central focus with the president’s supporters determined not to go back to the party of old, which featured squishy moderates like Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, and Sen. John McCain.

And while we can appreciate Meghan McCain’s passion for standing up for her late father, whose thumbs-down vote saved Obamacare, even though he campaigned on repealing the health care law again and again, this is a battle she’s not going to win.

The co-host of “The View” was majorly “triggered” by the Arizona Republican Party making it clear that they have no interest in returning to a McCain-inspired GOP.

Responding to a post from a local faction of the party, the Arizona GOP tweeted: “As the sun sets on 2020, remember that we’re never going back to the party of Romney, Flake, and McCain. The Republican Party is now, and forever will be, one for the working man and woman! God bless.”

The local faction made an appeal for civility and respecting fellow Republicans, but an incensed Meghan McCain had no time for that.

“Honestly whomever is running this twitter account can go to hell,” McCain tweeted.

Not content with the insulting counter, McCain then slammed the state party for the recent election results — Arizona being one of the key battleground states the Trump campaign has been contesting, claiming voter fraud.

Dr. Kelly Ward, chairwoman of the Arizona GOP, would respond to McCain’s tweet: “Good job, @AZGOP! Someone is #Triggered!”

McCain countered to suggest — or boast? — that Ward was “threatened” by her as a McCain.

Again, not content with that response, McCain came back to detail election results: “You just lost Arizona both Senate seats to Democrats, the general election to Biden and turned the state blue for the fist time in generations.”

Things would then get real personal, as Ward reminded McCain that she and her mother voted for the Democratic nominee and did nothing to help the party, before calling them “a family of frauds.”

“All you do is lose elections chica,” McCain responded. “Your own and other peoples.”

Raging liberal Montel Williams weighed in to defend Meghan McCain, saying Ward was “trolling the daughter of my Naval Academy Brother Sen. McCain,” suggesting that she was “way out of her league.”

Ward agreed, saying “I have integrity, honor, & honesty. I realize I shouldn’t punch down to her level, but patriots have had enough. We’re tired of RINOs ruining our republic. It’s past time to #SpeakUp.”

After thanking Williams for supporting her, McCain corrected Ward for using “your” instead of “you’re.”

She added: “Arizona is a blue state thanks to your leadership! Why don’t you talk to @Montel_Williams about chemtrails? It’s what you’re most famous for.”

Alleged voting fraud aside, the public spat between the two may or may not explain why Trump didn’t carry the state convincingly, but it certainly captures the intensity of the ongoing battle for the soul of the Republican Party.
