Former acting director of national intelligence Richard Grenell had a reality check for Joe Biden and his potential future administration.
With Biden’s vow to begin dismantling whatever he can of President Donald Trump’s policies, and erasing anything else connected to the 45th president, Grenell offered a hard truth, reminding Democrats that there is no going back for Americans on one of the president’s signature doctrines.
Just as toothpaste cannot be squeezed back into a tube once pressed out, support for Trump’s “America First” foreign policy is “never going back to the bottle,” Grenell told Breitbart News’ Joel Pollak on SiriusXM’s “Breitbart News Sunday.”
Efforts by Biden and Democrats to take the country back to pre-Trump days before the patriotic wave was unleashed will be futile and ill-advised, Grenell warned.
The former U.S. Ambassador to Germany was responding to a question by Pollak about the threat, if any, Trump’s foreign policies will face under a Biden administration.
“Let’s just be honest, the American First policy and the America First agenda that Donald Trump has unleashed is never going back to the bottle” he said.

“We have won the debate on putting America first. No matter what Joe Biden or any future president does, they are not going to be able to put America second without a huge cry from the American people,” Grenell emphasized.
“Foreign policy has always been one of those things that the American people have not fully embraced, or understood, or wanted to get into the details of for a variety of reasons. I think the American people are very smart, but sometimes they are too busy to get to know every single detail of what the State Department is doing.”
Democrats have been clear about their contempt for Trump’s patriotism and his supporters for daring to be proud of being American. Last month, former Defense Secretary James Mattis denounced Trump’s national security policies and said he looked forward to a Biden administration abandoning the “America first” strategy.
A clearly bitter Mattis urged Biden to “eliminate” Trump’s foreign policy in favor of a more “cooperative” approach.

Grenell told Breitbart that Americans have never fully embraced or understood foreign policy, making them easy targets for bureaucrats looking t take advantage of them.
“The State Department types — many bureaucrats, and I would say foreign policy experts in Washington — have taken advantage of the American people in that they go out and make these policies around the world, spend the American people’s money, and don’t ever come back to talk about what the American people are paying for, or what they’re doing around the world,” he said.
“What Donald Trump has done with pushing the America First agenda is never going to cease,” Grenell added. “Future presidents may try to couch it a little bit differently, or they may try to roll it back, but they are going to be unable to do that.”
He gave Trump credit for getting Americans on board with a U.S. foreign policy that puts the nation’s best interests firsts.
“The American people now see that their money must be spent wisely, including at the State Department, including for foreign policy,” Grenell contended. “Experts in Washington have controlled and monopolized the spending, and tried to pretend like they’re smarter than everybody and really gone down the path of being a globalist for America.”
But “those days are over,” he declared.
“The American people are much more engaged now because of Donald Trump,” he explained, “and they’re going to expect their government to put America first.”
