A California chef sick of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s coronavirus restrictions fired back at “all the haters” who have attacked him for defying the state’s strict COVID-19 orders.
Celebrity chef Andrew Gruel came to his own defense after being called a “grandmother killer,” posting a video message explaining why he is is “not an a**hole” for choosing to keep outdoor dining at his restaurant, Slapfish Seafood, open for business despite orders by Democrat leaders to the contrary.
“OK, I’ve got everybody blowing up my replies right now, saying I’m a grandmother killer and that we don’t take this pandemic seriously, so I’m just going to address it all right here so that I actually don’t have to individually go back and forth and box with every single one of these fake accounts,” the executive chef said.
“So, here’s the situation,” Gruel continued. “Do we take the pandemic seriously? Of course we do. Am I saying that we shouldn’t close outdoor dining? Yes, I am.”

“At every single juncture along the way here, from the beginning shut-down to today, we’ve listened to all of the advice from our government officials, only to be shut down over and over and over again, and then not compensated for the elements that we put in place in our businesses in order to protect our customers,” he explained.
“We shut down indoor dining. No problem. I’ve got a warehouse full of plexiglass right now, ok? We went outdoors…all right. Now that’s getting shutdown. I just put thousands of dollars into outdoor heaters,” the irate chef said, noting the multiple efforts the business has made to comply with the state’s moving goal posts.
Gruel argued that there is “zero scientific evidence that proves that outdoor dining is contributing to a rise in cases relating to this.”
Newsom announced new stay-at-home orders in portions of the state lasting for at least three weeks and forcing non-essential businesses to close down. Most schools will be ordered closed and restaurants can only provide takeout and delivery food services.
Our ICUs are climbing quickly toward their capacity. Our death rate is rising.
To slow the surge of #COVID19 and save lives, CA is introducing a Regional Stay-At-Home Order.
Regions where ICU capacity⁰fall below 15% will be placed into this Stay-at-Home Order ⁰for 3 weeks.

Newsom came under fire last month after he was caught at the posh eatery, The French Laundry, for a birthday party even as he has spent months warning residents to stay at home.
“I am only saying that we are going to continue dining outdoors, because I can get on an airplane, and I can fly and eat and do whatever I want — and don’t tell me it’s the HEPA filters, OK?” Gruel continued in his video.
“Because that’s not the case. You don’t turn those on until you get onto the plane. Before that, everybody’s fornicating on top of each other,” he added.
Small business owners following the state’s draconian health protocols have been devastated by the handling of the pandemic in the Democrat-run state while larger companies such as target and Amazon have been able to remain open and continue to make a profit.
“Therefore, screw that,” Gruel said. “We’re staying open outdoors. It’s that simple.”
“I’m not an a**hole,” he concluded, “the governor is.”
