U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz sparked a torrent of reactions on social media after posting what some saw as a flirty response to a photo of Tiffany Trump.
The Florida Republican seemed to add to the countless random headlines of 2020 with his emoji response to the photo of President Donald Trump’s daughter. Twitter users mocked Gaetz for what they saw as a “creepy” and inappropriate” reaction to the post which has been retweeted over one thousand times.
The photo of the 27-year-old Trump was taken at the White House during an election night ceremony last week. The president’s younger daughter, his only child with former wife Marla Maples, was dressed in a red pantsuit and seen posing against drapes in a long hallway.
Her original post was captioned with a red heart emoji.

Less than an hour after the younger Trump shared her photo on Twitter, Gaetz responded with fire, heart, heart eyes and thumbs-up emojis.
The 38-year-old congressman did not add any words to his post and his recipient soon responded by hitting the “like” button.
The post ignited a flood of responses on Twitter where many called out the GOP lawmaker who is a vocal supporter of the president.

Liberal actress Rosanna Arquette called Gaetz a “perv,” and Sandra Bernhard said it was “so sad and droopy for all involved.”

Comedian Rosie O’Donnell retweeted another Twitter user who asked “Anyone else sickened by this?” with a reply stating, “on many levels … #yuk.”

Earlier this year, Gaetz had commented on another mention of the president’s daughter.
“Congratulations to my daughter, Tiffany, on graduating from Georgetown Law. Great student, great school. Just what I need is a lawyer in the family. Proud of you Tiff!” the president had tweeted in May.
“Tiffany is a beautiful person inside and out! It’s so great to see her success. Big things coming,” Gaetz wrote as he retweeted the comment.

While Tiffany Trump is believed to still be in a relationship with boyfriend, Michael Boulos, the congressman is apparently single.
Some of the Twitter comments focused on Nestor Galban, the 19-year-old Cuban boy who has lived with Gaetz since he was 12 years old, and suggested he might be jealous of the lawmaker’s attention to the Trump daughter.
