Sen. Kamala Harris was mocked online over a video clip showing her crowding into an elevator with an entourage reportedly on her way to Skype into Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing which is in the same building.
“This is how you do it before skyping into a hearing **in the same building**. Makes total sense,” Phil Kerpen, president of American Commitment, a small-government advocacy group, wrote in a Twitter post accompanying the video.
The initial clip came from Ian Miles Cheong, the editor of conservative mag Human Events, with the accompanying post: “Elevator packing. Zero social distancing.”

In a follow-up tweet, Kerpen said that Harris Skyped from Room 112 in the Hart Senate Office Building to Room 216, where the Senate Judiciary Committee she is a member of is holding Barrett’s confirmation hearings.

Several Twitter users joined in mocking Harris, both for her lack of social distancing and for the entourage with her.
I was in Vegas this last week. Four people per elevator car. Apparently @KamalaHarris doesn’t care about the health of the people amongst her.

And we got the added bonus of how stupid she looked, how bad the lighting was and how ridiculous her statements and condescension were in the face of soon to be Supreme Court Justice class act ACB 🇺🇸

Wow! I just assumed she was out campaigning. I should have known better!😂 They are more socially distanced in the room with ACB than the elevator. Also, what’s up with the entourage?

On her way into the elevator, Harris was asked a now-familiar question — whether she and Democratic nominee Joe Biden opposed or supported “packing” the U.S. Supreme Court with liberal justices.
As before, Harris would not answer directly, claiming — falsely — that Biden has made his position clear on the issue already.
While the former vice president has said in the past he is opposed to the concept of expanding the Supreme Court with political picks, he has refused to repeat his earlier rejections, even claiming that Americans would have to wait until after the election, if he wins, to find out because they “don’t deserve” to know ahead of time.
In recent days ahead of their debate, a spokeswoman for Vice President Mike Pence mockingly agreed to the Commission on Presidential Debates’ decision to erect plexiglass barriers between both candidates.
“If Sen. Harris wants to use a fortress around herself, have at it,” Pence spokeswoman Katie Miller said, Politico reported.
Also, in response to “health and safety” issues raised by the Biden campaign before the debate, the commission also agreed to place Harris and Pence 13 feet apart instead of the seven-foot distance agreed upon for the first debate between President Donald Trump and Biden.
The changes were requested after President Trump tasted positive for COVID-19. Pence, meanwhile, had been tested negative for the virus repeatedly, including the night of the debate.
The Biden campaign said it expected “the commission and the Cleveland Clinic to ensure these debates happen safely and we fully intend on debating Donald Trump should the medical experts believe it can be done safely.”
In August, Harris called for a national mask mandate if Biden wins, claiming that it’s the “responsible” thing to do.
“Yes. It’s a standard. I mean, nobody’s going to be punished,” Harris said in an interview with NBC’s “Today” show when asked if she supported a nationwide mask mandate.
“Nobody likes to wear a mask, this is a universal feeling, right? So, that’s not the point,” she added. “The point is this is what we as responsible people who love our neighbor, we have to just do that right now. God willing, it won’t be forever.”
