With President Donald Trump having been diagnosed with the coronavirus, it appears the Democrats’ Russian collusion narrative has returned again …

Responding to the president’s diagnosis Friday, Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy claimed on CNN (a network known for its love of conspiracy theories) that the president’s temporary inability to campaign means he’ll have “to rely on his surrogates.”

And by “his surrogates,” Murphy of course meant Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite there not being a shred of evidence to back this long-touted conspiracy theory.

If President Trump can’t be out there on the campaign trail for the next two weeks, then he is going to rely on his surrogates and, unfortunately, one of his surrogates is Vladimir Putin,” he said.

“So you are likely going to see this campaign ramped up by Russia over the next few weeks to try to substitute for the president’s absence on the campaign trail.”

Listen:

This unhinged conspiracy theorizing provoked widespread backlash toward both the loudmouth senator and CNN, which had made no attempts to challenge him.

In fact, Rep. Doug Collins combined his criticism of the two, cleverly writing that Murphy is essentially “the CNN of the U.S. Senate.”

Look:

Some of the backlash came from Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who was astonished that, while “the president … is in the hospital with a life-threatening illness … that buffoon [Murphy] is on television saying Vladimir Putin is one of his surrogates.”

He added, “Can I say, and I mean this, I would rather live in a country run by Putin than by Chris Murphy.”

Can you blame him?

His guest, conservative commentator Mark Steyn, concurred.

“If Chris Murphy is in the line of succession I’m on the first plane out of here!” he said.

He added that, in reality, the “real colluders, the real interferers” are the leaders of Communist China who’d allowed the coronavirus to sweep the world.

Listen to their discussion below, via Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight“:

“The Chinese Communist Party has managed to impact three of the G7 leaders. They put my old chum Boris [Johnson of the U.K.] in the intensive care unit, and he’s never been the same since. He’s permanently damaged. They put the prime minister of Canada’s wife … she’s had this thing. And now we have the president of the United States, so that’s three-sevenths of the G7,” he said.

“That’s a pretty impressive strike rate from the real strategic threat to this country while Chris Murphy is talking about his clapped out, stupid four-year-old Russia conspiracy that in fact has nothing to do with anything real anywhere on the planet.”

Steyn further noted that the Chinese have been gloating over the president’s diagnosis.

Earlier Friday, Chinese-state affiliate media posted a since-deleted tweet celebrating Trump having “paid the price” and predicting this “price” may “negatively affect his reelection.”

Look:

“The Chinese government newspaper was gloating within hours about the president and the first lady’s diagnosis, and yet this buffoon, who is … one of 100 from 300 million people who gets to sit in the United States Senate, thinks this is something to do with Putin. I mean this is Orwellian,” Steyn continued.

“The fact that we’ve actually got a rampant China threatening all manner of countries, boasting about how it flies into Taiwanese airspace when American cabinet officials are there just to tell them who’s really boss, and Chris Murphy thinks — ha ha ha — the president being taken to the hospital is just a great opportunity to dust off the old four-year-old Putin jokes. Pathetic!”

Murphy’s not alone in his Putin-obsessed derangement.

“We still don’t know whether Putin has something on him,” The Washington Post, a top American newspaper, wrote in a so-called “report” about a week ago.

Likewise, only three months ago, the country’s top Democrat, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, claimed without evidence, “With this president, all roads lead to Putin.”
