CNN’s Don Lemon insisted his call “to blow up the entire system” was taken out of context and appeared to walk back his eyebrow-raising remark.

In an on-air talk with colleague Chris Cuomo on Tuesday, Lemon backtracked on comments he made the previous night when he criticized the Electoral College and spoke of Democrats winning back the Senate and White House in November’s elections. The CNN host complained about being misrepresented but went on to reframe the same arguments as Cuomo added his two cents by playing the race card.

“I woke up and I saw all of these headlines, ‘Don Lemon is calling for the abolishing of the electoral college!’ But I was responding to you when you said we need people with integrity!” Lemon said during Tuesday’s handoff from Cuomo.

“Let me tell you, I don’t care. But, I was responding to you when you said we want people with integrity in office,” he told Cuomo.

“And I said, ‘Well, then we have to blow up the whole system. Right?’ But – and I said man, here’s what Democrats can do. And I said, ‘That’s the danger.’ They can stack the court. But all of a sudden, I am calling for the abolishing of the Electoral College. And what else did they say? That I’m a Democrat because I said ‘we.’ I mean, the American people. But anyway,” Lemon added.

The previous night, Lemon had been pretty clear about his stance.

“We’re going to have to blow up the entire system. And you know what we’re going to have to do?” he had said to Cuomo.

“I don’t know about that,” Cuomo had replied. “You’re just going to have to vote.”

“Honestly, from what your closing argument is, you’re going to have to get rid of the Electoral College,” Lemon went on as his colleague insisted, “I don’t see it.”

“Because the minority in this country decides who judges are and they decide who the president is,” he contended.

But after his attempt to clarify on Tuesday, Cuomo provided his commentary on the discussion.

“But listen, you forgot something very fundamental… A black guy can’t say that he wants to blow anything up right now,” Cuomo noted as the two laughed.

“What is wrong with you tonight?” Lemon joked.

“People are waiting for you to come and destroy their houses,” Cuomo added. “With people like me, your kooky white friends.”

“See. You can say that stuff. You can say that, but I can’t. See, I would get in trouble. Because then, you know, ‘Don Lemon is joking about violence and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,” Lemon replied.

“You have to. We have to mock it. We have to mock the intention to demonize people. You have to mock it. Because if you go at it straight it’s too much dignity,” Cuomo responded, lacking all self-awareness.

“Yeah, but I usually don’t give it oxygen. I usually don’t respond,” Lemon said.

“But I thought this one the context was so egregious. And they take the soundbite, just the little part that we say and not the context of the entire conversation,” he whined.

“But here’s what I say. Run and tell this. I do think that we need to look at the Electoral College, because I think that it disenfranchises voters, both Democrats and Republicans,” he said, making his case again. “Should it be abolished? That’s not for me to say. I’m saying this is what Democrats are saying. Stack the court. Get rid of the Electoral College. But there is no nuance and no context anymore. So, who really cares.”

Fox News Channel’s “The Five” co-hosts took the CNN anchors apart over the initial exchange, speaking of the “extremism” on the network and in the leftist media.

“Yes, extremism is in at CNN, a symptom of cognitive failure,” Greg Gutfeld said on Tuesday. “For to hold such extreme notions, you must embrace the irrational. As for the real problems, just denied.”

“No wonder CNN is now just weekly world news with Botox,” Gutfeld continued, slamming the CNN hosts for denying rioting taking place in New York City and anarchy in U.S. cities until polling began to hurt Democrats.

Co-host Dagen McDowell agreed, saying “they only talk to themselves, they live in that echo chamber.”

“The reason the liberals and the left-wing lemmings in the media want to shut you up and basically act like all victims are lying, because it doesn’t fit their political narrative,” she said.

“Listen, they’ve been lying and leaking, they’ve been unmasking and boycotting and doing all kinds of crazy stuff but now, now they are going to blow up the system. We’ve been seeing them do this,” Jesse Watters said, noting how Democrats did not complain about “the system” when former President Obama was in the White House.

“The Democrats are like a football team that keeps losing and they want to blame the rules, and they asked their fans to say, we are playing fine, the coaches are doing great. It’s the rules that are causing us to lose and the stupid fans, A.K.A. Democratic voters, they are going along with it. They are saying it’s the rules, it’s not the terrible players and coaches.”
