New York City’s Democrat mayor Bill de Blasio got slammed for canceling the annual Thanksgiving Day parade this year, citing coronavirus concerns. Meanwhile, he allows crowded Black Lives Matter riots as a chilling crime wave terrorizes his city.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson said instead of addressing the spike in murders across NYC, de Blasio wastes his time with hollow gestures like painting Black Lives Matter street graffiti and shutting down holiday celebrations. Last week, de Blasio tried to cancel New York’s annual 9/11 memorial tributes.

“New York is reinventing its crime statistics for this moment in history,” Carlson said. “Hundreds of corporations based in New York are pleading with the mayor to crack down on crime, save the city and improve quality of life.”

Seth Barron, the associate editor at the City Journal, said de Blasio tries to crush anything that brings New Yorkers a sense of normalcy or joy.

In his latest salvo, de Blasio called for a “virtual” Thanksgiving parade instead of a live street festival that would bolster people’s spirits and encourage tourism into the city.

Barron said New Yorkers have been “begging” de Blasio to address the crime wave, lift citywide lockdowns and do something to repair NYC’s devastated economy.

“But he has these feckless responses,” Barron said. “The Macy’s Day parade is a good example. This is an extremely popular national event. If we had it, it would signal, ‘New York City wants tourists! Maybe we can’t have everyone now, but we are open for business and this is what the future holds.'”

Barron remarked that (like most leftists) Bill de Blasio has a sadistic streak where he wants to ruin everyone’s spirits.

“Anything that’s cheerful or wholesome that normal people like, he wants to squash,” Barron said. “Meanwhile, in Washington Square Park every weekend, revolutionary communists — with a deejay and hundreds of people drinking, doing drugs and dancing — de Blasio doesn’t even notice that. He’s tacitly permitting it.”

Tucker Carlson replied: “Has de Blasio ever built anything or does he only destroy it? He is symbolic of the Left: Good at wrecking things that other people built, but bad at building things.”

Barron replied: “That’s a good question. He had a plan to extend the shoreline of Manhattan into the East River. I don’t think that’s gonna happen. I can’t say he built very much. He poured public money into rehabbing some apartments. But I can’t say he’s big on building things. He is more into redistribution. That’s what he likes: Taking what other people have and giving it to others.”

Many on Twitter slammed de Blasio’s decision to cancel the Thanksgiving Day parade.

“According to NY Mayor de Blasio, having riots in the street is perfectly fine but having the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is unacceptable. We’re all sick of this.”

“If De Blasio has his way we will all be eating a virtual turkey on Thanksgiving.”

“Bill De Blasio just cancelled the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. I say it’s time to CANCEL Bill de Blasio! DEMOCRATS are DESTROYING NEW YORK!”
