President Donald Trump’s exit from Air Force One with his family this weekend sparked a wave of ugly criticism and mockery on social media.

As the president, First Lady Melania Trump and their son Barron arrived at Joint Base Andrews from Morristown, N.J. on Sunday, video of their exit from Air Force One made the rounds on social media where the haters quickly pounced on the moment it appeared the president’s attempt to hold his wife’s hand was repeatedly rebuffed.

The first family was captured on video and photos as they departed New Jersey on Sunday, exiting the Marine One helicopter to board Air Force One for the return trip home to Washington, D.C.

The first lady emerged upon landing in the nation’s capital, alongside her husband and their 14-year-old son. As she began to navigate the steps descending from the presidential aircraft, Trump reached for her hand more than once as the high-heeled Melania firmly held her purse against her side, not accepting the gesture.

Anyone not feeding the “fake news” frenzy would clearly see that the first lady was quickly reacting to the windy conditions she encountered as she exited the plane. With a front split in her camel-colored shirt dress, Melania was obviously trying to keep her lower dress from flying up and creating an embarrassing photo moment.

Of course, the Trump-haters on social media were quick to claim she was giving the president the cold shoulder as he repeatedly tried to hold her hand.

The hatred toward the first lady and the president’s family was on display in many Twitter comments.

The theories were unfounded, naturally, as the couple did hold hands earlier when they exited onto the tarmac from Marine One in New Jersey.

Video footage clearly showed that there was no issue over the president reaching for and holding his wife’s hands as they walked to Air Force One. But, as this did not fit the narrative, the critics even found issues with how the president held his wife’s hand or how long she allowed him to do so.

Also targeted by the haters was the couple’s teenage son who towered over his parents. The youngest Trump, the couple’s only child, has mostly stayed out of the political spotlight and is usually seen in moments such as this when they are traveling.

The family had spent the weekend in Bedminster, New Jersey and the president had visited his younger brother, Robert, in the hospital on Friday in Manhattan. Robert Trump died Saturday at the age of 71,

Barron Trump, who stood taller than his 6ft,3in father and even his mother in her high heels, gained plenty of attention on social media as hateful comments poured in.

The first family had plenty of support on social media, however, as many remarked how much Barron has grown and how good-looking he is.
