‘President Pelosi’: Joy Reid believes Pelosi would be default-president if election results are contested

MSNBC’s Joy Reid did not even try to hide her euphoric reaction to the prospect of a “President Pelosi” during an election discussion.

The MSNBC host appeared to relish the idea that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi could be the “default solution” to a hypothetical election impasse that she discussed with Harvard Law School professor Laurence Tribe.

In the ongoing narrative by Democrats, if President Donald Trump does not get reelected in November, he will likely have to be forcefully removed from the White House. The scenario has been replayed repeatedly by the president’s critics, with everyone from liberal media talking heads to his former rival Hillary Clinton and current opponent Joe Biden pushing the idea that Trump will be a sore loser and refuse to accept election results if he does not win.

The president’s vocal opposition towards mail-in voting, a process being pushed by Democrats amid alleged concerns over the coronavirus outbreak, has added to the narrative. The topic was under discussion Friday as Tribe warned about not playing Trump’s “game” in the event November’s election results are not immediately clear.

“So I wouldn’t, at this point, play Trump’s game of essentially throwing up our hands and saying there will be no winner, Trump is going to win by default,” the vocal critic of the president said on Reid’s new nightly show on MSNBC, “The ReidOut,” on Friday.

“He can’t really do it,” Tribe added.

“The default solution in our system is President Nancy Pelosi. And I can think of worse things than that,” he told Reid who broke into a huge grin at the very idea.

“You have made, I think, a lot of peoples’ night, Laurence Tribe,” she said in an almost giddy response. “President Pelosi, hmm.”

“Hmmm, not bad,” Tribe agreed.”

“Well, she’ll have a fabulous mask on with every outfit. Not bad at all,” Reid added.

As speaker of the House, Pelosi is next in the line of succession after Trump and Vice President Mike Pence and the scenario was given new life recently after the president tweeted a bombshell remark about delaying November’s election.

“With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???” Trump tweeted this week.

He later warned that mail-in voting could set up a situation where determining a clear winner could take “days”  and even “months.”

According to the U.S. Constitution, any sitting president has to vacate office when his or her term ends at noon on Jan. 20, making way for the newly elected president or as some are suggesting could happen, the House speaker if the election results are still being determined. But with members of the House, including Pelosi, up for reelection this year, the California Democrat could also be out of office and the Senate president pro-tempore would be next in line.

But even a scenario where a winner may not immediately be determined and Pelosi would have to take over as president is purely speculation. A group of election law and security experts released a statement in response to Trump’s tweets, noting that the election will go on as planned November 3.

“It’s critical in the Task Force’s view that the public understand that we will have an election on November 3rd, and that the president has no authority whatsoever to either change that date or to extend his term past noon on January 20th,” the National Task Force on Election Crises said.

“The statute dealing w/ presidential succession is there for extraordinary circumstances, but even getting into that gives credence to the premise that we might not have an election — which we don’t want to do,” the task force added.

In the meantime, liberals like MSNBC’s Reid can bask in their fantasy world.

“Keep playing, Trump,” the MSNBC host tweeted after her interview with Tribe. “If you cause so much confusion that no president has been certified by January 20, it’s goodbye you, Barr and all your friends and family and hello, President Nancy Pelosi.”
