Maxine Waters floats Trump sending feds to quell Portland bedlam really a ‘trial run’ if he loses election

Rep. Maxine Waters has a theory about President Donald Trump and the ongoing rioting in the city of Portland.

The California Democrat shared with MSNBC’s Joy Reid that the federal forces dispatched to the Oregon city that has been besieged by rioting for more than 50 nights in a row could be a “trial run” by the president to deal with a potential election loss in November.

Waters joined the Democrat bandwagon that has been raising the alarm with a theory that Trump will not go quietly – or at all – if he loses his reelection bid. The congresswoman used the discussion about ongoing chaos in the Democrat-led city of Portland as another chance to float the narrative.

Democrat leaders in Oregon, including Governor Kate Brown, have vehemently objected to the deployment of federal officials in the wake of protests that have turned increasingly violent and have continued for weeks following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis in May.

Federal agents, including the U.S. Marshals Special Operations Group and a U.S. Customs and Border Protection team, were enlisted to quell the violent demonstrations in Portland where, just this past weekend, rioters set fire to the Portland Police Association building after breaking into it.

Mayor Ted Wheeler and other critics of the president have had a meltdown over the supposedly unidentified federal forces in unmarked vehicles. During her interview of Waters on Wednesday, Reid brought up the “paramilitary troops” or “secret troops” that she said were “converging” on cities led by Democrats.

“The people of this country had better be worried about what we’re seeing in Portland,” Waters responded.

“We have these paramilitary police officers or whomever they are, they’re federal officers or agents of some kind that’s been organized by the President of the United States,” she added.

“He did not contact the local mayors. He did not contact the governors, he just sent them in,” she said, ignoring the fact that Trump repeatedly offered federal help to stem the unrest and finally sent in forces to protect federal properties.

“Who are these people? Why do they have these kind of uniforms on where they cannot be identified?” Waters continued, saying the officers have been “pulling people off the street” and “throwing them” into unmarked cars.

“This is what you see in countries where you have dictators. In third world countries with dictators who have paramilitary that they can call anytime they want,” she went on.

“As a matter of fact, it has been suggested that this is a trial run of the President of the United States who may be organizing to not accept what happens when we have the election if he’s not elected,” the Democrat claimed. “Is he going to pull out his military? Is he going to engage us? He has already alluded to there may be a civil war if he’s not re-elected.”

“This is dangerous,” Waters exclaimed.

The lawmaker’s rhetoric echoed that of other Democrats recently as they lay the groundwork to throw November’s election results into question should Trump win.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who slammed the president last week for deploying “unidentified stormtroopers” in the Oregon city, declared that he will be leaving the White House “whether he knows it yet or not.”

“It has nothing to do with the certain occupant of the White House doesn’t feel like moving and has to be fumigated out of there because the presidency is the presidency. It’s not geography or location so, so much for him,” she told MSNBC this week.

Former Vice President Joe Biden believes the military will have to get involved to remove Trump from the White House.  Asked by “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah in June whether he had thought about the possibility of Trump refusing to leave office, the former vice president declared, “Yes, I have.”

“I promise, I am absolutely convinced they will escort him from the White House with great dispatch,” he said.

And failed 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton told Noah last week that “I think it is a fair point to raise as to whether or not, if he loses, he’s going to go quietly or not. And we have to be ready for that.”

Left-wing political commentator and Young Turks host Cenk Uygur added to the conspiracy theories on Tuesday by offering to personally “go to Washington” to remove Trump if he “loses the election and refuses to leave, and the United States military does not remove him from office.”
