Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee responded to Black Lives Matter activist Shaun King calling for statues of “white” Jesus Christ to be torn down, calling them a form of “white supremacy,” to say “the only thing you can do is laugh at these loons.”
Appearing on Fox Business Network’s “Varney & Co.,” the pastor compared what we are seeing in the streets of America, where statues are being destroyed, seemingly at random, to Islamic extremism.
“First of all, what an idiotic thing we’re seeing going on all over the world where people are tearing down every kind of statue,” Huckabee said. “In Austin, Texas, they defaced a statue of Stevie Ray Vaughan, a guitar player, a blues player. “This has gone beyond anything we could have imagined.”
Huckabee explained that history is important in maintaining a national identity, and said “when a culture doesn’t know its history, it is living in chaos.”
“We don’t know our history,” the Republican noted. “We’re living in chaos, and these crazy people on the left are now becoming like Islamic terrorists, destroying every last vestige of art and culture and trying to erase history.”
Host Stuart Varney pointed out that Democrats have been quiet about the attacks on statues, which even include George Washington.
“They have already pretty much surrendered to the far left,” Huckabee replied, as he pointed to the fiasco in Seattle, where anarchists and left-wing revolutionaries have been allowed to occupy a six block section downtown.
“This election this year will be a very clear choice between Democrats, who think this stuff is okay, and those of us — not just Republicans — but the rest of us who say if you don’t have a society in which law is respected and order is kept, then we are not a country anymore,” he told Varney.
He also said “people are disgusted, fed up with the nonsense,” even though they aren’t marching in the streets.
“People have respect for other people,” Huckabee said. “Regardless of their color, race, ethnicity, but they don’t have respect for lawlessness and anarchy, which is what we are seeing played out on our streets.”
“These crazy people are becoming like Islamic terrorists.”
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell took to the floor of the upper chamber on Tuesday to denounce the assault on American landmarks.
“A crazy fringe is treating their monuments like vanity statues of tinhorn tyrants,” he observed. “Our founding fathers are being roped to the ground like they were Saddam Hussein.”

The majority leader also noted the role politics is playing in the carnage.
“Night after night, governors and mayors have stood down and watched criminals spray paint churches and topple statues,” McConnell said. “Public order is now totally optional, and depends on the law-breakers’ politics.”
Huckabee is a musician, and he took to Twitter to comment on the defacing of the statue of Vaughn, again comparing what we are seeing to “radical Islamists,” calling those responsible for all the destruction going on “terrorists.”
“Stevie Ray Vaughn??? One of greatest blues guitarists ever,” he tweeted. “When the leftist loons destroy every last piece of art and culture they are no different than radical Islamists who destroy art and antiquities to erase history. Wake up America! These aren’t kids-they are terrorists!”

Here’s a quick sampling of online responses to the story that support Huckabee’s assertion that people have grown tired of the madness:
Might not care too much about outside decorations. But I do care about property rights and destroying someone else’s property is a crime. These are not misguided youth. They are criminals.

It doesn’t matter he’s a white figure, that represents White America. And that’s what’s being under attack right now.

History and civics classes in schools have been replaced with gender study and activism classes. I don’t see anyone over 25 on the streets acting a fool.

Underrated tweet.

Maybe he was once seen eating an Eskimo pie…or worse, an aunt jemimah pancake!

As many on Twitter seem to agree with Huckabee’s comparison:
