Conservative commentator Candace Owens lit up social media when her “confession” about George Floyd went viral.
The former communications director for Turning Point USA got an earful from critics after posting a Facebook live video with the caption: “Confession: I DO NOT support George Floyd and I refuse to see him as a martyr. But I hope his family receives justice.”

“It has been weighing very heavily on my heart and on my mind as well,” Owens began in the 18-minute video shared Wednesday.
“There were so many emotions and so much pressure for me to go with the popular opinion about who George Floyd was,” she added. “We are being sold a lot of lies at the detriment to the black community, at the detriment to the white community and at the detriment to America as a whole.”
“So, I want to come out and say that I do not support George Floyd and the media’s depiction of him as a martyr for black America,” Owens continued, going on to note something written by American conservative author Shelby Steele who said that the black culture is unique because it is the only community that caters “to the bottom denominator of our society.”
“Not every black American is a criminal. Not every black American is committing crimes. But we are unique in that we are the only people that fight and scream and demand support for the people in our community that are up to no good,” the vocal critic of the Black Lives Matter movement explained.
“You would be hard-pressed to find a Jewish person who has spent five stints in prison, who commits a crime and dies while committing a crime and that the Jewish people demand justice for,” she said, contending it is the same in white and Latino communities as well.
“What I am saying is not any defense for Derek Chauvin,” referring to the former Minneapolis police officer who has been arrested and charged for the death of Floyd after he was seen in a video pressing his knee against the neck of the victim who later died.
“The family of George Floyd deserves justice for the way that he died but I also am not going to accept the narrative that this is the best the black community has to offer,” Owens said. “For whatever reason, it has become fashionable over the last five or six years for us to turn criminals into heroes overnight. It is something I find despicable.”
“George Floyd was not an amazing person. George Floyd is being upheld as an amazing human being,” she said, noting some of the facts about the victim.
“Everyone is pretending that this man lived a heroic lifestyle,” Owens said. “We are embarrassing in that regard. Nobody wants to tell the truth in black America. Our biggest problem is us.”
She concluded with the stand that she had “no apologies to make. George Floyd is not my martyr. He can be yours.”
In another video, posted on Twitter with nearly one million views, Owens acknowledged that black Americans “are going to be angry with me” as she addressed the “martyring of criminals” and called out the black community for holding Floyd up as a sort of hero.

“I’m finally ready to say what I know to be true and I am aware it’s going to make a lot of people hate me,” Owens said in her 17-minute video, arguing against the narrative that is being circulated about the 46-year-old man as a sort of hero.
She went on to argue that the “whole concept of racialized police brutality is a myth,” contending that one has only to “do basic mathematics” to find that “the entire narrative that we have been sold is a lie.”
“There is no racially targeted police brutality against black Americans,” she said, noting statistics to back her point.
“The left thinks we’re dumb,” Owens continued, blasting the celebrity-endorsed Black Lives Matter movement. “And we have to stop proving them right. We have to stop taking the bait. We have to stop accepting a foolish election-time narrative that is going to disappear on November 3rd.”
“We are just complete jokes to the left because, the thing is, that they do it every four years and we keep falling for it,” she said.
Not surprisingly, Owens began trending on Twitter with the video and there were plenty of people ready to trash her anti-Floyd take.
Yet again your argument is to slander the victim. Even if he was a criminal in his past it doesn’t make it ok to be killed. You did the same thing with #AhmaudArbery . Slandering a dead person doesn’t make you cool. Why don’t you use your platform to bring people together already?

#CandaceOwens thinks Donald Trump is smart. That’s enough evidence to just ignore her.

For the record, I’m never retweeting a #CandaceOwens clip. Y’all need to stop giving her the clicks she so desperately wants.

She’s an idiot and her racist colleagues love having their puppet try to discredit what all this is really about. No one said George was a hero, he was a VICTIM. What we are saying is, we want bad cops held accountable for their tyranny. #CandaceOwens

Supporters, however, commended her for bravely speaking up.
#CandaceOwens is trending for being right.

The people lashing out & raining curses on #CandaceOwens aren’t doing so because she’s wrong, they’re doing so because she’s right and she hurt their feelings.

#CandaceOwens love her! She says the things that are difficult for people to hear in the hopes people wake up to the lies of the democrats. No one else tells you that you are a victim like the democrat party.
