Lara Logan defends Catherine Herridge from ‘self-appointed guardians of journalism’ and their biased attacks

The one enduring trait of the Left-leaning ‘mainstream media’ is hypocrisy, as was demonstrated once again in recent days by those purveyors of propaganda who ignored attacks on one of their own for daring to engage in real journalism.

But thankfully, there are still a few good reporters left in the business who came to her defense.

Readers may recall that Catherine Herridge, a former investigative reporter for Fox News who’s now plying her trade over at CBS News, scooped other outlets when she reported, via Twitter, that dozens of people had requested that Michael Flynn’s name be unmasked.

When Herridge revealed the information, it was the most important finding, to date, of the alleged conspiracy to ensnare Flynn by members of the Obama administration.

But of course, the unwritten rule among ‘mainstream’ journalists is that the Obama administration and Democrats, in general, are untouchable, no matter how dirty, crooked, or corrupt they may be.

Even a blatant, naked attempt to depose a duly elected president via a soft coup is to be excused, hidden, covered up as long as the perpetrators have a “D” behind their names.

As such, Herridge was mocked and attacked for her scoop by her the campaign of presumptive 2020 Democratic nominee Joe Biden, mostly because his name was on the list of people who requested Flynn’s unmasking that Herridge exposed.

After being dismissed as that ‘right-wing reporter from Fox News’ by a Biden hack, Andrew Bates, Herridge was ghosted by many of the media types who claim foul when it’s President Donald Trump who is calling them out.

Again, thankfully there are still a few real journalists out there who understand the media’s true role in American society is to serve as a check on government abuse. One of them is fellow investigative reporter Lara Logan, who not only came to Herridge’s defense this week but called out the “self-appointed guardians of journalism” who were silent as their colleague came under assault.

“Catherine Herridge does not deserve to be targeted and smeared for doing her best to report honestly and fairly, regardless of politics. Where are all of those self-appointed ‘guardians of journalism’ -all the experts/academics -when journalists are targeted for doing their jobs?” Logan tweeted Wednesday.

Others agreed.

In a recent interview with Fox News, investigative journalist Glenn Greenwald, founder of the Left-leaning online outlet The Intercept, also defended Herridge while blasting her colleagues for abandoning her after she came under assault from the Biden campaign.

“I think Catherine Herridge is a reporter of the highest integrity and professionalism,” Greenwald told Fox News host Martha MacCallum on “The Story” Friday.

“I find it extremely ironic because every time President Trump has insulted or attacked a journalist popular among mainstream media outlets, they proclaim that the republic is coming to an end, that it’s an assault on the free press,” he added.

“Every time he says something mean about Jim Acosta or tweets something about Chuck Todd or Wolf Blitzer, every reporter steps forward to express their solidarity as though they’ve been shipped off to a gulag,” Greenwald continued. “And in here we have the Biden campaign viciously attacking a reporter who really is as straight of a shooter as it gets. She doesn’t really ever editorialize, she doesn’t squabble with anybody, she just reports documents that are true.”

He also blasted a “really nasty, vicious hit piece” on Herridge by The Daily Beast, which claimed in a report earlier this month following her Flynn scoop that Herridge has “frustrated” Democrats and “some of her own co-workers.”

“They’ve created the standard that when Trump insults a journalist, we all have to band together in solidarity in order to defend a free press. Why is that standard being waived when the Biden campaign viciously attacks one of their colleagues?” he asked.

Meanwhile, Jonathan S. Tobin, writing at the New York Post, pointed out this week that the Washington media “pack animals” were all engrossed in the ‘Russian collusion’ hoax for years while Herridge was digging, and finding, the truth: That there never was any ‘collusion’ because it was a fabricated narrative as fraudulent as the FISA warrants Jim Comey’s FBI obtained to spy on a member of the 2016 Trump campaign.

But, if you dare to report that — as Herridge has — then:

…[Y]ou are going to lose friends in Washington. If you show that there was a concerted attempt to spy on his campaign and to leak information designed to paralyze his administration, you aren’t going to be popular with journalists who were part of this effort.

So it’s hardly surprising that Herridge — a star reporter at Fox News from 1996 until last year before moving to CBS — has been subjected to abuse by Joe Biden’s campaign mouthpiece and backstabbed by her colleagues in recent days.

Her former employer of 20 years, Fox News, added:

The mainstream media largely abandoned CBS News senior investigative correspondent Catherine Herridge last week when she was attacked by Joe Biden’s campaign flack – but critics say things would have gone differently had her reporting fit the liberal “groupthink” narrative.
