Right on cue, lockdown protesters labeled as racist extremists in growing attempt to smear

There’s a strong suspicion among reasonably-minded Americans that the left wants to keep the U.S. economy shut down as long as possible, in the hope it will negatively impact President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign.

Far from being concerned about the harm this will bring to the American people, they are counting on this pain to prompt voters to blame Trump — then again, with “Sleepy Joe” Biden as their standard-bearer, Democrats have good reason to be so desperate.

In the face of growing protests, the media have invested in praising heavy-handed Democratic governors who are taking a slow, cautious approach to reopening, while casting a dubious shadow on Republican governors forging ahead in the quest to get America back to work.

To get a better idea of how important the effort is, there’s an attempt being made to paint Americans protesting for the right to get back to their lives as extremists.

The New York Times dug up the weathered “white supremacist” narrative to suggest anti-government elements “are attempting to turn the coronavirus pandemic into a potent recruiting tool.”

With April being Hitler’s birthday and the anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing, the Times informs readers that April is typically a busy month for white supremacists.

“Although the protests that have broken out across the country have drawn out a wide variety of people pressing to lift stay-at-home orders, the presence of extremists cannot be missed, with their anti-immigrant and anti-Semitic signs and coded messages aimed at inspiring the faithful, say those who track such movements,” wrote Times correspondent Neil MacFarquhar.

And COVID-19, which originated in Wuhan, China, is allegedly the new battle cry for these racists.

Readers are warned that “white supremacists have encouraged followers to conduct attacks during the crisis to incite fear and target ethnic minorities and immigrants.”

Naturally, there’s a tie-in to President Donald Trump.

“After President Trump tweeted that he was temporarily stopping immigration in response to the pandemic,” MacFarquhar observed, “the mood among white power advocates ranged from jubilation to cautious optimism.”

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, one of the more authoritarian Democrats in the country, played the race card in responding to residents in her state protesting her actions — Whitmer has dictated to stores what they can sell, and has banned family visits.

Appearing Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Whitmer said protests inside the state capitol last week depicted the “worst racism and awful parts” of U.S. history.

The media hyperventilated because some of the protesters were lawfully armed, and though Democrats recoiled in horror, no one was shot.

There were reports of swastikas and Confederate flags in the crowd of protesters, never mind that Michigan is far from the Deep South — there may have been a flag or two present, carried by an occasional zealot, but they were hard to spot with so many American flags flying.

As for the swastikas, they were reportedly used to depict the governor as a fascist.

“Some of the outrageousness of what happened at our capitol depicted some of the worst racism and awful parts of our history in this country,” Whitmer said.

“The behavior you’ve seen in all of the clips is not representative of who we are in Michigan,” she added.

On the other hand, President Trump stood by peaceful Americans exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right to protest.

“The Governor of Michigan should give a little, and put out the fire. These are very good people, but they are angry. They want their lives back again, safely! See them, talk to them, make a deal,” he tweeted.

Whitmer doubled down on her overly restrictive actions Sunday, essentially telling voters eager to reclaim their lives that she’s going to save them whether they like it or not.

“The fact of the matter is we are in the global pandemic,” she declared. “This is not something we negotiate ourselves out of and is a political matter, this is a public health crisis that has taken the lives of almost 70,000 Americans.”

“Whether you agree with me or not, I’m working to protect your life if you live in the state of Michigan,” Whitmer added.
