Not helpful! Crowds completely ignore distancing rules to see hospital ship arrive in NY harbor

President Donald Trump continues to deliver on a promise to use the “full power” of the U.S. government to assist the American people in the face of an unprecedented national emergency.

With New York City now the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic — as of Monday morning, there are more than 36,000 confirmed cases in the city and nearly 800 dead — the USNS Comfort, a Navy hospital ship with 1,000 beds, has arrived in New York Harbor.

At the same time, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio took a break from threatening to permanently close churches to hold a news conference at the harbor, which drew a throng of people to look on.

This occurring after De Blasio warned residents that fines of $250 to $500 would be imposed for those found congregating in public spaces who fail to disperse.

Not only did de Blasio sing the US Navy’s praises, he actually thanked the president, who dispatched the USNS Comfort out of Norfolk, Virginia.

“We’ve all been through a lot these last few weeks,” de Blasio said, as he stood on the pier where the ship is docked.

“We needed this boost, we needed this hope that’s being created by our brothers and sisters in the US Navy,” he added, according to the New York Post. “This ship arriving is not just an example of help arriving in a physical form, it’s not just about the beds and the doctors and the equipment.

“It’s also about hope.”

Never mind that New York is under a “stay-as-home” order, as de Blasio’s appearance drew a crowd.

The ship expects to begin receiving patients 24 hours after arriving, with all patients being transfers from local hospitals. Patients will not be accepted on a walk-on basis, according to the US Navy.

“The USNS Comfort arrives in New York City this morning with more than 1,100 medical personnel who are ready to provide safe, high-quality health care to non-COVID patients,” said commanding officer Capt. Patrick Amersbach. “We are ready and grateful to serve the needs of our nation.”

New York’s Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo shared a video clip of the ship arriving, taken from an escort vessel.

“The USNS Comfort seen sailing to New York Harbor from a NYS escort vessel,” he tweeted. “The Comfort brings 1,000 much-needed hospital beds & 1,200 personnel to New York. I’ll be in NYC to receive a briefing upon its arrival.”

Another video captured the New York City skyline in the background, as the ship passed the World Trace Center sight.

And below is an iconic photo of the Statue of Liberty in the foreground, shared by OANN’s Jack Posobiec.

Such imagery is sure to leave the Trump-hating media with little glee and delight.

MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow accused President Trump of lying on her March 20 show, calling his assertion that the U.S. Navy hospital ships would be in Los Angeles and New York City in the near future “nonsense.”

“The president said when he announced those ships would be put into action against the COVID-19 epidemic. He said one of those ships would be operational in New York harbor next week. That’s nonsense. It will not be there next week,” Maddow said.

Exactly one week later, on March 27, the USNS Mercy arrived in the Port of Los Angeles.

And three days later, on Monday morning, the USNS Comfort arrived at New York Harbor.
