‘It’s like being on ‘The View’’: Co-hosts use ironic comparison to rip dumpster fire Dem debate

Tuesday night’s Democratic debate on CBS was so bad that Joy Behar compared it to the shrill factory she co-hosts.

The ladies on “The View” often justify the contentious, often irrational exchanges the show is famous for on the idea that they’re all “passionate women,” and the dumpster fire that was the CBS debate certainly had passion.

In a review of the Tuesday night’s spectacle, co-host Meghan McCain almost asked for permission to pan moderators Gayle King and Norah O’Donnell, who were clearly out of their league.

A partial clip was shown of the candidates talking all over one another, to the point that no one was being understood, as King and O’Donnell did nothing to reestablish control.

“This is hard for me to say, and I hope this is okay. I didn’t love the moderators,” McCain said. “I thought that Gayle and Norah were not the right choices, I didn’t think they handled the chaos of these kind of candidates in the right way.”

McCain also said it was obvious that at this point, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., was running to be Sen. Bernie Sanders’ vice-presidential choice, should he be the nominee.

Both McCain and Behar agreed that former Vice President Joe Biden had a good night.

Behar chimed in to say that it would have taken a lion tamer to control the event.

“Like Whoopi said, it’s like being on ‘The View,'” she added.

Co-host Sunny Hostin agreed the debate was “very chaotic, saying it came across ‘like Fight Club,'” before shifting to an issue favorable to Biden in the upcoming South Carolina primary — the black vote.

“I agree with you, I just didn’t feel like they were able to control it as well as some of the other moderators,” Hostin said. “But what I thought was interesting was you saw issues that were important to the African-American community front and center, and it’s obvious because they were in South Carolina and the black vote is going to be crucial to every single candidate.”

She said for the first time in a long time, issues that important to African-American women were discussed.

“And we heard Joe Biden say that he was going to nominate a black woman for the Supreme Court and I thought, ‘Okay, you’ve got my vote.’ So I thought that — Biden said that.”

“To have somebody like Biden there felt good, because he’s a gentleman with a sense of humor,” Behar interjected, as if a sense of humor is a defining quality for the most powerful office in the world.

It’s clear that Biden is the candidate of choice on “The View.”

“He had a good night and a good morning,” McCain said of Biden. “Because he was just endorsed by Congressman Jim Clyburn who is the godfather of South Carolina politics, the longest-serving member in South Carolina.”

Behar then noted how Clyburn “was saying you can’t get Bernie in there because he’ll kill the down-ballot and Donald Trump is not only going to win but probably win in a landslide.”

Whoopi jumped into squash Behar’s notion that young black guys are with Sanders, saying, “I don’t think anybody knows where the kids are at.”

She then segued to insist that no one can “buy” the election, this being a not so subtle backhand to Michael Bloomberg and Tom Steyer.

This prompted further discussion on money having an influence on elections.

Behar jumped in to note that without Bloomberg’s money, Democrats would not have gained control of the House in 2018 — the irony being that at Tuesday’s debate, he let slip that he “bought” the seats that gave Speaker Nancy Pelosi her gavel.

The segment drew to a close with Whoopi making an impassioned plea to viewers to get involved and back candidates that will bring change — which is likely an early sign that President Trump is well on his way to a second term.
