Joy Behar and Meghan McCain lock horns over ‘surging’ Bloomberg; Trump Jr. exposes his dirty playbook

With socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders now the front-runner in the 2020 Democratic primary, there’s reportedly a lot of scrambling going on behind the scenes — among the machinations allegedly taking place is sudden emergence of Michael Bloomberg.

The billionaire and former mayor of New York City has the means to finance his own run and a shock poll from St. Pete Polls shows Bloomberg leading the field in Florida. For the record, Bloomberg has spent tens of millions of dollars on ads in the state, while most other candidates have yet to campaign there.

One person who is not a Bloomberg fan is Meghan McCain, co-host of “The View,” and colleague Joy Behar took exception to her opposition, as she forcefully defended the man President Donald Trump calls “Mini Mike,” which is a reference to Bloomberg’s 5-foot, 6-inch height.

McCain said to be elected president, a candidate must win the black vote, prompting Behar to insist that Bloomberg is “already doing this.”

“But you have to win over the Midwest and Pennsylvania, and coal miners and people that are not attracted to a lot of the democratic coalition in order to win the presidency and Trump has that locked and loaded,” McCain countered. “And I’m sorry, a guy who wants to take away your Slurpee is going to have a real problem—”

Behar interrupted to say Trump wants to take away your health care, and that puts him in even worse shape.

“You know what Joy? I’ve been right about election stuff and you’ve been wrong, so just trust me on this,” McCain said, raising her voice. “You thought Trump was going to lose in 2016 and I didn’t.”

“Me and 100 million people,” Behar replied, before giving voice to the stance of many on the left, adding three years after the election that “he did actually lose.”

“Does that make you feel good at night?” McCain asked. “He’s in the White House. It’s a ridiculous thing to say every single day on this show. He is president. Move on.”

After saying she’s not interested in feeling better, Behar seethed, “I want him out!”

As a late entry into the race, Bloomberg has not seen nearly the same level of media scrutiny that the other candidates have endured — perhaps that’s by design.

Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son and namesake, is doing his share to draw attention to Bloomberg’s shortcomings.

He shared a tweet directing followers to a Twitter thread by journalist Blake Zeff.

“Great thread,” he tweeted. “Good for everyone to see the Bloomberg playbook. Being willing and able to spend billions can surely circumvent a lot of criticism and buy you a lot of phony endorsements.”

The thread is 17 tweets long, but includes examples of Bloomberg’s wealth allowing him to obtain important endorsements in the black community and within political circles.

Zeff offers examples of Bloomberg offering catered food and free wine at campaign events that would draw big crowds, to the surprise of few.

And then there are the non-stop ads.

“Saturating the airwaves gives you the huge advantage of never needing media coverage – which means rarely having to submit to interviews or scrutiny,” Zeff said in one tweet.

The thread notes how Bloomberg’s ads help him “get his story out more” — a story he can craft to his benefit while bypassing the media, and how he pulls it off.

As Trump Jr. stated, it’s a “great thread” that exposes a lot warts Bloomberg would like to keep hidden.
