‘What Meghan wants, Meghan gets’: Celebs cheer young couple’s Royal defection, others claim ‘the motive’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are being simultaneously slammed and praised after dropping a bombshell on the Royal Family.

In a dramatic decision made without consulting Harry’s father Prince Charles or even his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, the couple announced Wednesday that they are essentially quitting as Britain’s royals, setting off an avalanche of reactions.

After returning from a six-week trip in Canada, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex unexpectedly went public with a statement saying they wanted to “carve out a progressive new role” and “step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family.” The announcement left the family feeling “disappointed,” according to the BBC.

The couple had broached the subject of a new life last week and family members were reportedly willing to help them achieve their desires but the public announcement, as well as launching a new website independent of the Royal Family, blindsided many.

“Discussions with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage. We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through,” a statement from Buckingham Palace read.

British journalist and co-host of “Good Morning Britain,” Piers Morgan, was among the loudest critics calling the couple’s actions “disgraceful” while noting “What Meghan wants.. Meghan gets.”

The couple’s statement explained that they want to be “financially independent” and they plan to earn their own income. However, they also plan to retain their home at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor as their official residence, splitting their time between the UK and somewhere in North America. Of course, that home is the Queen’s property and they would need her permission to continue living there.

Some, like conservative commentator Candace Owens, saw things coming a while back, claiming her motive has always been ‘fame.’

Harry and Meghan are only renouncing parts of their royal status, as they – along with 7-month old son Archie – will still reportedly also keep their police protection, funded by British taxpayers.

“It’s a masterclass in wanting to have your cake and eat it,” one royal insider told the Daily Mail. “Even their own staff cautioned against them making this public until they actually sat down and discussed it with the family properly.”

“People have been bending over backwards looking at different ways of doing things,” another source said. “But they have made clear they still want to be paid by the public purse for their work and they have to accept that things need to be thought through carefully.”

Of course, woke Hollywood celebrities and others cheered on the couple and pushed the race narrative that Markle, a former actress, was never accepted as a royal because of her background.

Others, however, pointed out all the obvious problems with the couple’s decision and the way they chose to deliver the news.

And of course, those with a sense of humor also got in on the reactions, as the hashtag #Megxit was born.
