Petition to remove Meghan McCain from ‘The View’ sees a surge in signatures

The new year is not getting off to a great start for Meghan McCain, daughter of the late Sen. John McCain.

The so-called token conservative at the table of ABC’s “The View,” is facing a spike in signatures on a petition to have her removed from the liberal daytime talk show.

The petition has been around for a couple of years but has seen a recent surge in the number of supporters, hitting more than 2,200 signers as of this writing.

Granted, this is not a petition from those on the right, who have their own concerns about McCain.

“Anyone who like me has watched The View for years and has seen the sourness and immaturity that Meghan has brought to the show doesn’t need much persuasion,” the author, Catherine Iyoha-Idiong, wrote. “Let’s get her OFF our favorite morning show and back to Faux News where she can safely keep discussing Obama possibly faking tears with onions after little children were murdered at school.”

Iyoha-Idiong pitches CNN’s favorite Trump-hating Republican Ana Navarro, a former aide to Jeb Bush and McCain’s late father, as a suitable replacement. Or Jedidiah Bila, a former Fox News host who was a co-host of “The View” previously, leaving in 2017.

McCain often appeals to the left on the show, particularly when it comes to hating on President Donald Trump, who has a history of attacking her father. Given that Trump said the senator gave the infamous Steele dossier to the FBI for “very evil purposes,” some may argue rightfully so.

For the record, Trump’s slights came well before that.

Meghan McCain has a history of clashing with Joy Behar, as the two women can get downright nasty with each other.

Over the summer, the tensions erupted into a fiery exchange on the air, with McCain calling Behar a “b*tch.”

“Don’t feel bad for me, b*tch,” she told Behar, in a discussion about a Trump rally.

The clashes with Behar seem to resonate most with McCain’s detractors, as seen in the remarks from one petition signer:

“The worst decision ever for The View was bringing Meghan McCain on the View. She is so disrespectful to her fellow co hosts, especially to Joy. I know she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth but she failed miserably at leaning about kindness, patience and respect for others. The View will never earn an Emmy while she is on the show. She cannot even refrain from smirking and giving others murderous looks.”

There was a report shortly after the show referenced above that McCain may not sign on for the 23rd season of “The View,” which began in September.

The Daily Beast cited sources claiming that McCain was “feeling like a caged animal” on “The View,” describing her as “so exhausted and defeated” from her two years on the program.

McCain had a recent run-in with co-host Whoopi Goldberg, coming during a heated discussion on impeachment.

Goldberg jumped in when McCain was persistent in making her point and demanded, “Girl, please stop talking. Please stop talking right now.”

An angry McCain shot back that she would not talk the rest of the show and Goldberg replied, “I’m OK with that!”
