One of the first truisms when it comes to reporting on the Trump White House is just because the media says it’s so, doesn’t make it so.
When the goal is to make President Trump appear unfit as commander in chief, the truth is often contorted to fit a desired narrative and that’s the feel one gets from a Daily Beast story claiming the administration launched a “weeks-long investigation” to find out who liked a Chelsea Clinton tweet.
As usual, anonymous former U.S. officials are cited as the source of the alleged petty action.
The tweet in question was a reply to a tweet from the president, who was responding to criticism he received for letting daughter Ivanka fill his seat at the G-20 meeting of top economic powers in Hamburg, Germany.
Trump named Chelsea in the July 2017 tweet, saying if she “were asked to hold the seat for her mother, as her mother gave our country away, the Fake News would say CHELSEA FOR PRES!”
Chelsea tweeted: “Good morning Mr. President. It would never have occurred to my mother or my father to ask me. Were you giving our country away? Hoping not.”

Of the more than 518,000 “Likes” the Chelsea tweet got, the Daily Beast reported that one came from the account for the U.S. mission to the European Union.
To learn that there are liberals in the government bureaucracy that would favor her over Trump is not exactly a bombshell revelation, given that they dominate the ranks.
More from the Daily Beast:
That kickstarted a weeks-long investigation, prompted by the secretary’s office, into who exactly at the Brussels mission had access to the Twitter account and hit “Like” on Clinton’s tweet, according to two former U.S. officials. […]
At least 10 people were interviewed about whether they, as administrators of the account, had mistakenly or deliberately pressed the “Like” button. All of them denied any wrongdoing, those sources said. One individual familiar with the exchanges said the secretary of state’s top managers in Washington “wanted blood” and called Brussels numerous times demanding the name of the culprit.
The culprit is reportedly never identified and we’re told the embassy “restructured the Twitter account and limited access to just two individuals.”
The article doesn’t elaborate on how many had access to the account beforehand, but called concerns over social-media messaging “micromanaging” that is “still causing headaches for staffers and officials at top American outposts.
This bearing the traits of a now-familiar ploy to paint the Trump administration as dysfunctional.
“There were definitely times [during the Tillerson era] where ambassadors would complain about a complete lack of information flow between the White House and State, and that they would be in the dark about what they were supposed to say, or even put on Twitter,” said an anonymous senior administration official.
Daily Beast’s Asawin Suebsaeng, one of the reporters on the story, tweeted: “actual government resources and manpower and extended time were dedicated to this one twitter ‘like’ in the early Trump era.”

Then again, if the report is true, it’s not like they spent 2 years and $40 million dollars like we saw with the Russian collusion hoax.
Social media users were quick to scoff at Suebsaeng’s observation, as seen below:
Well liking a Chelsea Clinton tweet is a sure sign that you are a psychopath so probably pretty smart

Like the almost 3 solid years of the impeachment fraud that has cost us beyond measure, wasted money, and time.
Hunt down our enemies and expose them. Yes. https://t.co/73qvsYnN73
