Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., continues to be propped up by anti-Trump networks like CNN and MSNBC as an authority on matters related to President Donald Trump.
Never mind that the radical freshman Democrat has a rather unaccomplished record thus far as a lawmaker, other than hating on the president. Omar is also dealing with a number of controversies involving her personal life, be it allegations of immigration fraud by marrying her biological brother, potential tax fraud, concerns over campaign fund violations and a reported extramarital affair involving a political consultant.
Yet, Omar, one of the first two Muslim women elected to Congress, sees fit to compare President Trump to a mob boss.
Appearing Monday on MSNBC, host Ari Melber asked Omar for her “current thinking” on the impeachment of Trump, in regard to whether Democrats’ should take a narrow or broad approach in their partisan campaign to take out the president.
Among the broader charges to impeach a duly elected president, Melber explained, are “bigotry and racism.”
Omar was clear the intention all along was “when” to impeach Donald Trump, not “if,” validating Republican concerns that impeachment is an inquiry in search of a crime.
“Right now, I think it is really important for us to have it be narrowed, because this is a very concise case, regardless of the shenanigans that the Republicans are engaged in at the moment,” Omar said. “The public can clearly understand where the violations are and can follow this case.”
The simpatico relationship between the network and Omar a sight to behold.
Omar said that Ukraine “is a clear example of how this lawless president has taken advantage of the public trust, has violated his oath of office, and why it’s important for us to impeach him so that we can restore the integrity and the honesty and the trust of the presidency.”
“To make sure I’m hearing you right on that, you would say on, say, the bigotry that you discussed before, the Mueller stuff, you’d say leave that out?” Melber pressed.
It was at this point that Omar compared Trump to a mob boss.
“I think there are other opportunities, but right now we have a clear case, and I believe that we should follow this one,” she replied. “You know, I’ve used examples where you’ve had mob bosses who have committed atrocity after atrocity, and have violated our criminal codes of conduct, and we got them on one narrow case. But they get to serve time.”
“Congresswoman, it sounds like you are artfully making a comparison on the legal precedent to this president and Al Capone?”
“Yes,” Omar answered with a smile, stopping short of thanking Melber for the assist.
Never mind that when the Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations law passed in 1970, this allowed for a broader approach to prosecuting mob bosses.
This coming from the woman with a laundry list of allegations leveled against her.
“The facts describe perhaps the most extensive spree of illegal misconduct committed by a House member in American history,” investigative reporter David Steinberg said of Omar.
And this was before concerns were raised about improper use of campaign funds.
